"Last Auto Defrag:" not functioning properly

Recommended Posts

I can't figure out why the "Last Auto Defrag:" indicator only seems

to work part of the time. For instance, I set the "Start AutoDefrag

when the system has been idle for- 5 -minutes and left the PC for

about 1.5 hours. The time was the same as before. I then shutdown

SmartDefrag for a minute or so, and then repeated the whole exercise.

Again, the same date and time as always(which reads about 4 days

before). But THEN, when I checked it again 4 hours later, it correctly

showed the date and time of the second attempt. Am I overlooking

or missing something? I really want this feature to work dependably,

for various reasons. Even so, I thank IObit for the fine product.

Sincerely,

KK

Hi kenkraft,

It does work dependably, as it defrags automatically when there is a need for a defrag, of which some of the parameters are set by the user.

"Start AutoDefrag when the system has been idle for- 5 -minutes" setting does not start a defrag after 5 minutes of idle time if there is no need for defragmentation.

Cheers.

does not start a defrag , if there is no need for defragmentation.

Which is a Good Thing, since it Lets you know the last time the drive actually Needed defraging.

I can understand that. It may have not needed defragmenting.

But in my tests, the little bubble above the icon in the right corner

of the taskbar will read "Auto Defragging" after the set idle time has

passed. But after 4 or 5 minutes, which is when the bubble disappears,

and I halt the process a few minutes later(to allow plenty of time for

the process), the "Last Auto Defrag:" time is still unchanged.

My theory is that since my system drive is fairly well maintained

as far as defragmentation is concerned, the bubble messenger is

actually meaning "Analyzing", and since no defragging ends up

taking place, there's no change in the time/date afterward.

Either way, I am thankful for such a good little app. Thanks for

the replies.

Hi ken

There is also the question of idling, 5 minutes may not be enough especially if you are using or looking often.

Just forget about it for a while without closing it and then take a look in the evening before closing the computer.

Otherwise just run it manually, you will soon learn when it probably needs defragging on your machine.

I only use the auto function or the schedule function to tests it for other users and haven't found any fault with it on my machine XPsp3.
