SDInit.exe_What is it?

Recommended Posts

Hi zak

I suppose that it intializes SmartDefrag. (make it ready)

It carries information about the settings and the skin and configuration and so on.

I further suppose that if you haven't chosen the recommended setting to let it start with Windows, you can click that .init file and have it ready for opening instantly when you choose to open SD, otherwise some seconds will pass if it is not configured to open with Windows.

Just a guess mind you :-)

Hi. I'd like to know what is SDInit.exe and what is it for. I usually run SmartDefrag.exe. I'd like also to know if there are other skins.

Thanks.

I suppose that when you say "open with Windows" you mean registry entry in ... HK.. Run; as you said before "some seconds will pass if it is not configured to open with Windows", and it is not; now the question is: if I use SDInit.exe (to save time, as you have pointed out) I will have the same effect of "recommended settings" and therefore the same registry entry.

Am I right?

Thanks

I'm starting to think solbjerg Guessed wrong about the 'start with windows' part, but maybe he knows something I Don't?

Hi zak

I was talking about the program settings.

And yes - I think so, at least when I tried without the recommended settings and then hit the init. file in the program folder, the program itself opened instantly ready to go when I afterwards tried my shortcut to the SD.exe file, whereas it before had taken some seconds to initiate readiness.

p.s. Toppack have you tried the same procedures? I am just reporting what I experienced while trying those procedures on one of my machines, - can't try it on the other one, while my wireless connection hasn't functioned for the last couple of days and while that machine sometimes react differently.

I let some time pass between the two tests + a restart of the program.

Well Toppack

Clicking SDinit.exe doesn't directly open anything.

(I did open it with Notepad++ to see what it contained and gleaned from that, that is was settings for the program, font, sizes and all the other settings necessary to initiate the program)

Perhaps my explanation of what I did was too clumsy? Sorry for that!

???

When I try to run SDinit.exe Nothing happens?

(some of the settings are not presently at recommended)

OK guys.

Only if i chose the options " start with win ( recommended ) " SD.exe should create a new reg key in HK....Run.

I think this happens to me because i've extracted the setup.

However if I doubleclick SDInit.exe nothing happens.

No problems.

SD.exe " seems " to replace " pagedefrag.exe " but you have to know all the files, and they are not only five.

Thankyou everybody

Okay, now I understand, but since it is a .exe type file, I doubt that the changeable Settings would be stored there, just the Fixed data?

Those are normally put into a .ini or .dat type file, correct?

I'm Glad Someone Understands because I'm Confused as Heck!

I did learn a Lot from this thread though.

Thanks,

Hi Toppack

An .ini file can usually be opened with Notepad, and one can change the commands fx. change language=English into language=Danish

the .init file on the other hand sets the commands for how the program should look and work, I think - and most of the file is encrypted, probably most of all to keep us from tampering with it :-) or to protect the "secrets" they have in it, possibly.

If you are able to decrypt it you may be able to change some commands, but it is beyond me.

With Notepad++ (free program) you can right click on the file and select edit with Notepad++ and then view the content of the file. Some descriptions and commands are in plain language, so you gain a little bit of information.

Yes, I understood that.

I thought you were saying that you thought the 'Changeable Settings' were stored in that .exe file,

so I was just saying that I don't think they could be in that .exe type file.

I Need another Beer!
