Missing USB Drive on SD v2

Hi,

I have recently upgraded to Smart Defrag v2 from SD v1.5. My Desktop PC has two 160GB hard drives C: and D: and I have added a 1TB Western Digital external HDD L: which runs on a USB.

Since upgrading to SD v 2.0 I can "see" both the internal drives C: and D: but not the external HDD L:.

I was happy with v1.5 as it could "see" and defrag all three drives but I cannot find a way to defrag the L: drive using v2.0.

Drive L: is password protected as does not "open" until after the system has been booted, so I wonder if that is where the problem arises?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer with this.

Can you easily disable the password protection, to see if it connects then?

I have external drives thru USB, with No problems. But No password.

In fact, I don't even remember how to put a password on drives?

Are you using Other software to do that, not in OS?

It might be better to password protect the Folders on drive, instead of complete drive?

(Encrypt the folders)

Depends on how many root Folders are on drive, I guess?

And if SD can defrag Encrypted folders is another question? I've never tried that.

Mysterious Reappaearance of Drive

Hi TopPack,

thanks for the info and suggestions. Tonight , without any input from me, the external HDD L: has reappeared on the list of volumes on SD 2. I have no idea why it was not on the list earlier but this has happened before and I am not sure why it happens. I never had this problem with v1.5 so its all a bit of a mystery.

I will keep a watching brief and let you know if it happens again.

Thanks for your help

If you are Loading SD at bootup, there may sometimes be a delay in the system seeing the external drive. Just enough delay for SD to Not see it either.

I've seen similar problems with other USB devices, on very fast computers, at bootup.
