Registry hosed

During Defrag I had to stop (pressed stop key). Computer seemed to work, but after rebotting the system is stoopid. Does not know what to do with LNK and EXE files. I'm thinking the registry is hosed, and want to replace or reinitialize it. The problem is it's an encrypted harddrive, so booting from a CD does not work. I can attach to the pc as a share and put files on it. Anyone know where the Registry is? (Nothing to lose, it's dead and unrecoverable otherwise)

Can you run 'Regedit' program from command-prompt line, to see it it finds and reads the registry okay?

If so, you should be able to run a registry Repair program also, to find out if it can fix problem?

The registry is not all in one file.

Some is loacted here: (If I remember path correctly)

C:\Windows\System32\config

But other parts are in 'User' files, one for each user,

and one other file I don't remember the name or path of, but it is a .dat (data) file.

(do internet search to find that)

Here is info about Restoring Registry:
