Check For Open Ports.

Mr Bean

Recommended Posts

ok here is a site to scan open ports for the ones interested

You can if you like check single ports or all available

http://www.speedguide.net/scan.php Then carefully check, what you want to scan

TCP and or UDP by ticking the boxes.

I use this site When I feel a need to test a port.

Its Safe and very secure ,and No harm done to your System Ether Linux OR windows OS.

Sometime One feels The Need to be Shown as to the properties of Closed Ports or if any are OPEN.

and make one feel at peace

ok a little advice here Free and meaning to be helpful

please Whether or not you use a fire wall Is up to you,

But I recommend Make sure you have one installed.

What you decide on Is your Choosing, But perhaps comodo ,or avg Something Like that Free versions, perhaps Zone alarm Free , then check your ports.

137-139 Block them at UDP - and any recommended by checking the above link run a scan ,and be sure you are filtered By your fire wall.

that are considered Most dangerous. Just a little attention on your part may save you a lot of grief??

Funny thing as I use Linux Mostly Now I see the Big difference

unfortunately Ms Get whacked a lot and if not guarded by a fire wall Could leave you Vulnerable.

Doesn't IObit's 'Security Holes Scanner' utility, in 'Toolbox' group, Do the same thing? :?:

I think it checks for open Ports, but Not sure?

Internally Yes, externally No that needs to be probed from the outside.

Try the above and see ,let Me know how you went

Sorry but Security Holes Scanner does not check for open ports but security patches from MS.

Cheers.

:shock::shock::shock:

But isn't that what the 'Vulnerability fix' utility Does?

Are they the same thing, with a different name?

Did you go to:

http://www.speedguide.net/scan.php

I clicked on the blue START button, a second small window popped up to say it was scanning then 7.31 seconds later I got the following report (see image)

That was it, no system changes were mentioned and no software download was offered.

All the best, woz of oz

Ah yes, I found it. ;-) Thanks,

(I didn't scroll down far enough to see the little blue button)

No open Ports found on this system.

(We still have one old XP system, on the network, that I need to check though)

I verified that there are No open Ports on all our network.

Seems like I remember that I needed to Block a port on one or more of the W-7 computers, when I installed W-7.

I don't remember the details of that but I think it was port 113.

I remember that because my Lucky-number is 13.

I just remembered that open ports are not as critical on our network, since there are Routers between our systems and both of our Internet connections.

But It's good to know that the ports are closed anyway.

The Routers are another welcome Firewall. 8-)

But I'm sure that some hackers know how to get past a router.:-(

But I'm sure that some hackers know how to get past a router.

its easer than people think! If you know how

and use there band with.of a victim ,thats why its important to check your system from the out side now and then. and then block vulnerable ports

Its not hard to understand and a little effort is needed, helps a long way

to stop this sort of behave-our.
