still fragmented after a deep optimize

Hi makeswell

Not easy to know with the information available :-)

Size of harddisk, size of free space + a lot of other things

Please read Thinking about defragmentation

link in my signature!

Did you run it with your antivirus program activated?

Have you tried to use the boot defrag?

Cheers

solbjerg

p.s. the program doesn't defrag running programs! Close those and try again.

I performed a deep optimize on my computer and then the computer went from about 33% fragmented to 32% fragmented. Why is so much of the hard disk still fragmented and what can I do about it? Thanks in advance. Good work.

By default, the red blocks mean fragmentation. I get this after reinstalling Windows, after a few full optimizes the problem goes away.

Hi makeswell

No harm in tryng that.

What are your settings, have you for example chosen to ignore (not defrag) large files?

Do you have many large files in your computer? i.e. picture, video files?

Do you have very many restore points?

How much free space in your harddisk? In percentage please!

Cheers

It's an older computer. 1 Pentium 4 2.8Ghz processer and 2GB ram. Should I try a defrag in safe mode before and without running any programs? That'd be easy enough.
