!

It went away after enabling all Guards, which then prevented me loading up Skype!!!

The I disabled IMF 1.2 Pro from starting up and Skype now works.

Not good IObit.

Really??

Mongoose, clearly you're joking, right? WU icon is a yellow shield. IMF icon is green and with any Protect Guard turned off will cause a yellow exclamation mark on the icon, see attached.

Hi luckyvic,

If some of the functions in Protection are off, users will get the yellow exclamation mark on the system tray icon. Thus to remind the users they are not fully protected.

Bogus Yellow exclamation in icon tray

If some of the functions in Protection are off, users will get the yellow exclamation mark on the system tray icon. Thus to remind the users they are not fully protected.

Hi Cicely,

Yes... that makes sense. But, this behavior has not been present in the prior free version of IObit Malware before the product update yesterday to v1.2.

As a user of the free version, I am aware of what is not, and can't be, enabled. So... using this type of upgrade reminder nag does a disservice to your product.

Why should I bother to check the product for any sort of threat to my system since all I see in my system Tray is a bogus False alert?

I find this distracting, and as a paid user of ASC, and a user of the free IObit Malware since beta... before there was a pay version... this sort of change in IOMalware behavior does not endear me to the product and lessens the chance of ever upgrading to the paid version. This action should be removed.

OK guys and gals,

Personally, I would prefer to be reminded by the icon, but I understand that some users do not like it.

Anyway it shouldn't be the reason to uninstall IMF unless other problems exist either with IMF or other IObit products.

Instead of going back to old icon, how about an option in the settings giving a choice to the user, be it Pro or Free, to be warned or not warned if some guards are off?

Cheers.

Yellow Exclamation Mark

Hi All,

This incident has caused me a bit of concern also. WHY was it appearing there - is what I've been wondering ever since upgrading to v1.2 I had trouble with that install, with the error message appearing towards the end of the unpacking operation : C\Program Files\IObit\IObit Malware Fighter\IMFShellExt.dll Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with Exit Code 0x5 Click Abort, Retry or Ignore. When clicking IGNORE - the setup continues on to the "install the IObit Toolbar ?" window. Installation proceeds as per usual. IMF appears to be working properly. Not real sure about that though.

I thought that this ERROR was causing the Exclamation Mark on the sys tray icon.

If there had been a notification IN the setup routine, perhaps this may have not caused so many people so much alarm.

I have no problem with the exclamation mark, now that I know what it's there for.

Hi Footloose

The installation of IObit toolbar is normally optional during install, but it may be that if it has been installed in the previous version that it will install without giving you the option to deselect it?

You can easily uninstall it with IObit's own Uninstaller though, or you can perform a clean install - in which case you should be presented with the choice to deselect it.

And yes the exclamation mark is related to what the program is set up to see as a security risk.

Hi Solbjerg,

I'm sorry. I probably didn't explain myself very well.

After that error message appeared & I clicked IGNORE - the installation routine continued on to the "Install the IObit Toolbar ?" window. I told it "NO" (as I've always done) and the setup/installation of IObit Malware Fighter v1.2 continued.

I don't appear to have any other problems with IMF v1.2

I don't have a problem with the exclamation mark.

It was just strange/coincidental that BOTH the error message AND the exclamation mark occurred in the same setup routine.

It threw me a bit.

I was simply commenting about the exclamation mark (and querying about the error message)

Thanks guys.

Hi Footloose

I may be to blame for not reading closely enough - sorry!

the dynamic link library (dll) / object linking and embedding control eXtension (ocx) couldn't register it said, so perhaps it would be wise to make a new Clean Install?

I doubt that the exclamation point had anything to do with that, but I am not certain. :-)

Just a nag

I agree with prior posts. The yellow triangle and exclamation mark is a waste.

I have come to expect better from iobit. I almost removed the app permanently until coming to this forum to find out what it really meant. As I run more than one scanner,

MSE, and its malicious software app too, I found no issues. Thought the iobit app was bad.

BTW those are free too!

Disappointed in iobit alot

Not good IObit.

If you installed Skype or updated Skype after IMF was installed and running you may have gotten one of the famous IMF "Allow - Block" popups during the install or update of Skype and selected "Block"

If you did this IMF with Guard turned on will not allow Skype to work since you choose to "Block" it. If this is the case then my guess is than maybe uninstalling IMF with Skype still installed and reinstalling IMF may solve the problem.

JMO - I could be way off on his but its just my two cents. If I am please let me know so that I can better understand how IMF works with other programs.

Thanks

OK

No famous IMF "Allow - Block" popups came up during updating Skype.

All other programs worked fine with IMF running, just Skype had problem with it.

I can say this.

I had Skype installed for a while but uninstalled it when a anti-malware program that I use identified the Skype installer as Malware. It could have been a FP but I uninstalled Skype anyway. I am not sure which program identified the Skype installer as malware. It could have been McAfee Stinger which rarely has ever generated a FP for me but I am not sure.

So my guess is that maybe IMF is identifying something in Skype as malware and thus preventing it from running. If this is the case, again it could be a FP. The fact that the problem starting occurring with the current release of IMF could be do to a change in the way that IMF identifies malware or it could be do to a signature update in IMF. In either case it could still be or not be a FP

Hi luckyvic,

Can you give us the contents of the following files:

1) config.ini

2) ignore.ini

3) remember.ini

located in Vista/Windows7 @: C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\IObit\IObit Malware Fighter

Assuming you are still using XP, they are located @: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\IObit\IObit Malware Fighter

OK luckyvic, I was expectig something about Skype in those ini files like MEMDEFRAG.EXE.

Probably, you can't run memdefrag.exe too!!!

Perhaps, an experiment could be the solution!!!

Adding the bold lines below to remember.ini:

What's MEMDEFRAG.EXE? I have Smartdefrag and Aulogics Disk Defrag (not running) and can run them just fine.

Anyhoo, I ran IMF without doing any changes you suggested first this morning and no problems with loading up Skype.

BUT when I ran a scan it got stuck on 360XploderSetup_2_52.zip and when I tried to stop the scan, the pc froze up and to a hard shutdown.

So that's it, IMF is being disabled once again and back to running Spyware Terminator.

It's too bad, I didn't have problems with IObit 360 Security and like it very much.

NOT Loading at Boot

Hi Solbjerg,

Apologies for the delayed response. Have been busy.

I have tried several reinstalls. That same error message appears at the same point every time.

I have noticed that IMF does not always load at boot-up, even though that option is checked in Settings.

On my other PC - IMF won't load at boot-up at all. The error message didn't occur on that PC during the installation process.

Perhaps I have a problem totally unrelated to the IMF software.

IMF appears to be functioning properly on both PC's, so I will close here. Thanks for your comments mate.

Hi Footloose

A man has got to do what a man has got to do! :-)

You talk about reinstallation - but it should not just be reinstalls - it should be "Clean Installs" :-)

If you do not know the concept it is explained through the links in my signature.

Otherwise sorry for your trouble.

yellow exclamation mark in taskbar

I am having the same issue as luckyvic. How can I get rid of this mark.

Here's what it looks like:

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh148/grrlscout420/yellow_exclam.jpg

( you may need to magnify; please see lower right hand corner of picture to see exclamation mark)

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this mark?
