IOBit Protected Folder turning off Superfetch? [SOLVED by Protected Folder 1.1]

I recently noticed that my Superfetch service, while set to automatic, was stopped. When trying to turn it on, I got the error that a file was not found. I then rebooted and it started, but stopped right away.

I did a websearch trying to find the problem, and read a post on a tech site in stating the following:

"I had a program from IoBit that would lock out some important documents and hide them in my computer until i inputted the password to unlock them. Well what happened was the program was hiding the documents from superfetch when the computer started and it caused it to terminate. As soon as i got rid of the program, the superfetch service was working again."

Curious, i went through my event log to see when the problem had started for me; the first instance was on 5/18/11. I then looked through IObit Uninstaller to see when I had installed Protected File. The answer: 5/12/11, the day it was offered on GAOTD.

Now, i love protected file and have used it since the day i got it, but unless this is a huge coincidence, it appears that the program is interfering with the Superfetch service. So is it a coincidence, or is this a known bug? Is there a fix? For example, all of my protected folders/files are on the same HDD but a different partition (D:) than my system files (C:); if I exclude C:\ from protection, will it leave superfetch alone?

I would hate to get rid of the program, so I'm really hoping there is a way to have both PF and Superfetch working on my computer. Appreciate any help!

As a followup, i set "C:\Windows" as a folder to exclude in the PF settings (I probably could have set it to "C:\Windows\Prefetch", but i'm not planning on protecting anything in Windows anyhow.

At the moment, Superfetch is staying on, so maybe this was the simple solution. If so, maybe making this as one of the default excluded folders would be a simple fix for future versions.

Thanks for your great products!

Hi ayarlas, welcome to IObit Forum! :-D

If your theory is correct, you have done a great help to IObit.

Please give the link to that tech site for that comment.

I have noticed the same problem of stopping of Superfetch in some PCs and certainly there is not much in the web to cure it.

I will try to apply your suggestion to those PCs and see if it makes any change, as C:\Windows\* which is included in the default exclude list of PF, includes Prefetch folder.

Deleting the content of Prefetch folder is a temporary solution to that too. (Which is completely contrary to the purpose of superfetching.)

Cheers.

Thanks ayarlas

Thanks for the link and the heads up ayarlas.

This is very interesting!

Back to the white paper for IObit about Protected Folder....

Although excluding C:\Windows does not cure the problem, I confirm that Uninstalling Protected Folder is the solution for Superfetch not starting because of the file can not be found problem.

A bug, unnoticed by all of us, is explored!!!

Cheers.

Hi ayarlas,

Finally, we confirmed this is a bug of our program, which will be fixed in our next version. We schedule to release the new version recently. It fixed some general bugs.

Do you mean that you have scheduled the new version for release recently??

Maybe repair of HUGE,Massive, colossal, bugs would be preferential!
