w7 is so much better than vista and xp you will not need 120 days to make your mind up, just make sure you have plenty of RAM

You missed the Point of my problem, I needed to use W-7 to test new components for new system.

AMD has delayed the build, until at least after first of year.

I don't want to activate W-7 until it's in new system and fully tested,

in the event that some components need to be replaced.

I think that when you Register W-7, to activate it, the W-7 Key-code gets Locked to the Mobo and CPU installed at that time,

So you don't want to activate it until you have the W-7 installed Hard-drive attached to the hardware you will be using in the future.

At least that's the way I assume it works? :?:

when i built my last home pc just before w7 came out I checked the hardware web sites to see if ok with w7, also downloaded all the m/b,graphics.printer drivers etc in advance.

cannot see any probs for a new build w7 is very easy going

I think I'll install W-7 on an old H-drive and let the 30-days expire, without activation,

just to find out what really happens if you don't reset it for another 30 days. ;-)

BTW- I found out that when you install a Service-pack (like SP1 for W-7) the 30-day trial period Starts Over.

I did not want to wait the full 30 days to find out what would happen,

so I changed the CMOS clock to next month,

and that did it.

1. the background graphics went to black color

2. message in lower right corner "This copy of Windows is not genuine"

3. Security-essentials stoped working and would not update

4. Windows would not update

Other than those, everything seemed to be operating.

BTW - After Reseting CMOS clock and re-booting twice

everything came back the way it was,

except the background graphics stayed black, and I had to reselect the picture I wanted.

So it uses the computers clock for the 30 day timer.
