Microsoft updates- fix if unable to access internet

If you are running Zone Alarm firewall and you can't access the internet after installing windows update from 7-9-08, you might read about this fix from Microsoft tech support:

 

"Before going further, I need to confirm if the computer is installed with ZoneAlarm Firewall and the (Internet Zone) security option set as high. If yes, it could be caused by incompatibility between Windows Update MS08-037 and ZoneAlarm Firewall.

 

Please understand that the updates that are offered in bulletin MS08-037 prevent the DNS service from conflicting with the reserved ports that other services may be listening on. However, if we set ZoneAlarm Firewall security as high, it will prevent that this update to modify some DNS service related file.

 

To troubleshoot this issue, please use the following steps.

 

Step 1: Adjust Zone Alarm Firewall Settings

1. Navigate to the "ZoneAlarm Firewall" panel

2. Click on the "Firewall" tab

3. Move the "Internet Zone" slider to medium"

 

 

Default for Zone Alarm is "High".This fixed mine.

Fix - With new version of Zone Alarm

 

This issue is solved with the new Zone Alarm version 7.0.483.000.

 

You can move the "Internet Zone" slider back to "High".
