what can Smart Derfrag 2.2 do in Windows 2000?

Hello, I've an old box running this OS.

Will SD still install in Win2k?

If it does, what does it offer in terms of optimization ?

Since there is no prefetch or layout.ini, does SD use any method to optimize

the files, or are they just put anywhere?

Thanks for any info.

Hi davexnet,

Smart Defrag defragmentation intelligently organizes drive data for maximum program performance and long-lasting data contiguity.

Optimization Defragment is an advanced and patented suspended technology of IObit.

Files are organized by their creation and modification dates. The theory is that files that have not been changed recently are less likely to be changed in the future.

Once Optimization Defragment has placed these older files in groups, future defragmentation is less likely to move them again.

Cheers.

Thanks enoskype,

I have Perfectdisk 7 on the Win2k box, and it does have the

placement based on date, etc, but the program has it's quirks and it's very slow.

I'll give SD a try.

I'm happy to report that SD 2.3 has made a difference. It's such as slow

CPU on this box (550 MHz) that the bottleneck is often the CPU, not

the HDD. However, I ran the optimize on the 7GB partition, it ran for about

15 minutes. The boot time is slightly faster, as well as some

app. start times.

Thanks very much -

Dave
