Hi titou

How would you translate coupersètique without first looking it up?

I am trying to choose which etymology is behind the English word copacetic.

The French rendering is said to come from Creole French

Thank you!!

Cheers

Hi Solbjerg

After a personal search, it appears that the origin of COPACETIC should be "Couper SETIQUE from Louisiana créole" ?

Well, It is absolutely not sure ! It "sounds" french... I believe the roots are not in this side...

Hi Toppack

Yes that is also true!

@ titou

Thank you! Ok I will try some of the other suggestions.

The current meaning in English of copacetic is excellent - first-rate.

But there are only theories as to the etymology.

Cheers

I thought 'copacetic' was an American Slang word used mainly during the 1940s ?

Hi Mongoose

Thank you!

Yes exactly!

Probably was a little optimistic of me trying to clear up the question in this forum :-) :-) :-)

But at least I learned a new word :-)
