Two volume bars after performing Deep Care + Toolbox tools

Marilou

Recommended Posts

Hello,

today I performed a Deep Care and used almost all Toolbox system tools.

After lots of cleaning, optimizing, reparing and updating now I've got 2 volume bars:

- the usual green one (this is ok)

- a new grey-light blue very big one showing: "Aumento del volume" (volume increase) or "Diminuzione del volume" (volume decrease). This one is quite annoying.

The System Restore failed, as usual

PC desktop HP Pavilion Media Center TV a1659.it

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 Service Pack 3

Antivirus: AVAST

Anti malware: MALWAREBYTES

Firewall: temporarily WINDOWS but I used to have ZoneAlarm

IObit Softwares: Advanced System Care Free, Smart Defrag 2 Free, Uninstaller Free

Any tips for solving my problem?

Thanks in advance!

???

Are you talking about Sound-Volume indicators?

Are these bars generated by Windows, other Sound-card-drivers or sound software ?

Are they on the Task-bar or does the HP-Media-Center-TV have a different boot-up-screen layout than a normal XP computer?

A screen-shot would be good, if you could upload it to this website,

so we will know for sure what you are seeing.

I doubt that IObit has done any testing with that older HP OS version,

I would recommend an upgrade if possible.

Hi Toppack

Good questions!

p.s. about xp: - about ½ a year ago about 60% of all corporate computers ran on xp and about 45% of all personal computers did so too.

That is a lot of computers - my guess about a billion (US designation) ;-)

Many people worldwide aren't very affluent.

Microsoft has to put these factors in their equations too if they want to retain their share of the market!

Cheers

No need to Remind me of World conditions,

but that does Not change the Fact that They NEED to:

UpGrade the OS !

(I think even Bill Gates realizes that MS is charging way too much for W-7 but he did not really care, when they set the price)

But I was talking about the Unusual 'HP Pavilion Media-center' version that she is using.

It's my understanding that it is Far from being the standard XP OS, with different video-driver and desk-top-display software ?

Here I am, thanks for your replies :)

First of all, the right SO is:

Operating System

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Microsoft DirectX Version 4.09.00.0904

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Professional

*Pacchetto di Servizi* Service Pack 3

*Numero di Configurazione* 2600

not 2002 as shown in System Properties of Control Panel. Sorry!

Audio:

Sound Device

Name Realtek High Definition Audio

Manufacturer Realtek

Status OK

*Realtek High Definition Audio*

*Produttore*Realtek

*Driver*c:\windows\system32\drivers\rtkhdaud.sys

*Versione*5.10.0.5282, 7-24-2006

The audio/volume bar I mean is the one located in the middle/bottom of the screen.

I have a screen-shot but the file size is always too big for the forum.

I tried to resize it without success.

What can I do?

Hi Marilou,

You can compress it as a zip/rar file and attach it. The limit is 1MB for that kind of files.

What was the extention of the file that was too big for the forum?

When you click on Manage Attachments button, you can see the upload limits for different file types (extentions).

Cheers.

Hi Marilou,

Yes, I can see the zip file and have seen the image in pdf file. Well done.

You don't need to put it in a pdf or document file, you can directly attach an image (.jpg extention up to 1MB size) to a post.

For your Volume problem, it needs a bit of a search in the web for the Registry entry in XP or for Realtek.

I will let you know if I find an info.

Cheers.

I did a .jpg attachment for you:

I don't know what software is generating those volume controls,

(I'm fairly sure that is Not part of the normal Realtek-audio drivers)

so you will need to determine that and then change the settings for it.

Then I would run the ASC utilities, one at a time, to determine which utility in ASC caused the change.

My guess is that it was one of the 'optimization' utilities

Marilou, please check if ehtray.exe is running in your Task Manager.

If running, please kill the process and see if the Volume is gone from desktop.

ehome is a part of XP Media Center in HP PCs and ehtray.exe and ehres.dll files are for to create On screen Volume on those PCs.

Also search for ehtray.exe in your PC (probably @ C:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exe) and try to run it to see if there are any controls.

You can also check if it is in your start up programs. So, you can disable it if it is there.

You can hide this display but still you will be able to increase or decrease the volume.

To do this:

Start=>Run=>Regedit=>OK

Now navigate to the following registry location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\VolumeDisplay

Highlight “VolumeDisplay”.

In the right pane of the registry editor you may find Registry value : “DisableVolumeDisplay”.

The default value data is “0″(zero), which enables volume level on screen display.

If you change the value to “1″(one) it will not be displayed.

After changing the value click OK. Close the Registry editor. Restart the System.

See if there is a change.

Please post feedback.

Cheers.

It was running, I killed it with great pleasure but it was the wrong one

The green bar disappeared and the tedious grey one is still there.

Will ehtray.exe come back when I reboot?

I'm going to re-check your suggestions tomorrow (it's 10 p.m. here) and hopefully find a solution, thank you all for your patience :-)

Hello,

sorry for replying late.

Marilou, please check if ehtray.exe is running in your Task Manager.

As I told you in my previous post ehtray.exe refers to the green bar.

Also search for ehtray.exe in your PC (probably @ C:\Windows\ehome\ehtray.exe) and try to run it to see if there are any controls.

Ehtray in C:\Windows\ehome doesn't run (Media Center Tray Applet, is it what you refer to?)

You can also check if it is in your start up programs. So, you can disable it if it is there.

I didn'f find it.

You can hide this display but still you will be able to increase or decrease the volume.

To do this:

Start=>Run=>Regedit=>OK

I navigated and also researched but I couldn't find any "VolumeDisplay" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center

:-(
