Hi,

On my Win7x64 PC, the new version displays errors at launch :

There is no drive in reader: Insert a drive in reader \Device\Harddisk3\DR3

I can either Cancel, Retry or Continue.

Then I click Cancel

and I get

There is no drive in reader: Insert a drive in reader \Device\Harddisk6\DR6

Then Cancel again and I get

There is no drive in reader: Insert a drive in reader \Device\Harddisk5\DR5

Cancel again and I get

There is no drive in reader: Insert a drive in reader \Device\Harddisk4\DR4

After the last Cancel, SD opens and all seems OK.

All was going well with previous version.

Anyone ? Thanks.

Hi Merle

How are your settings? Do you have all drives checked when you run a defragmentation?

Another possibility could be that some leftover from the previous version(s) is making it behave like that, in which case a "Clean Install" might be tried.

Cheers

Same windows 7 64 bit and same error message.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall but the problem is still present.

All previous versions works fine.

Hi,

Thanks for the answer and the confirmation. I have found out that the error messages are related to the "All in one" card reader. My Win7x64 PC has four drives letters mounted that correspond to the various slots available. It seems SD tried to access them, and since they are empty...

This is strange since I have excluded removable drives from defrag.

BTW, I have at most 1 drive selected when running a defrag.

May try a full removal then reinstall though...

I am having the same issue with version 2.4 on every PC that has a multi-card reader regardless of it being USB or in the case of the old XP PC that is IDE. This has never been an issue prior to version 2.4.

The drives dr3/4/5/6 DO NOT show up in the defrag screen, so there is no way to exclude them.

I have also uninstalled version 2.4 and then reinstalled it, to no avail. If you uninstall version 2.4 and reinstall version 2.3 you get the "There is an updated version message, do you want to install". There is NO way to stop getting this message. There needs to be a way to not check for updates. (I suppose you mean Upgrades? Cheers solbjerg)

I Agree Completely

We have Complained about this before, but nothing has changed yet.

I think that since it is free software they do not feel obligated to add that switch,

as well as fix other problems with 'header column positioning'.

Of course when it's Free, I can live with a Lot of Minor problems. ;-)

I just updated from 2.3 to 2.4. Same problem/error message immediately started. \device\harddisk3\DR3 repeated appears as described by MerleOne above. As LesBater noted it appears to be related to machines having a "drive" in the front bay for multiple plug-in removable "drives" which accepts various size memory cards from various media devices such as cameras, etc. I have such a "drive" on my Dell 518 64bit machine which I just obtained from my brother. I'm running Windows 7 pro. I did not have this problem with version 2.3. It all started an hour ago when I updated to version 2.4 in response to the update prompt. Is there a fix for this coming soon?

I should probably add that I have two regular 320 Gig SATA hard drives in my tower in addition to the "drive" in the front panel that Dell calls "Dell 19-in-1 Media Card Reader". Apparently Smart Defrag version 2.4 thinks it is a 3rd hard drive since the error message is saying harddisk3 as part of the message and is trying to read it when Smart Defrag starts up. With no memory cards or thumb drives plugged in normally, there is nothing there to read. This did not happen with SD 2.3 as I have been using 2.3 for several weeks on this same hardware without any problems. Possibly the programmer/author of Smart Defrag could change the "settings" functions during install or later and add a feature so the user can tell the program how many real normal hard drives his system has and which drives the user wishes the software to attempt to recognize on routine program start. Maybe that would be a solution.
