Version 2.4 Exception Processing error [SOLVED by SD 2.5]

Recommended Posts

I upgraded to version 2.4 from 2.3 and after the install, I get the error message:

Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameter 75bf7c 75bf7c 75bf7c

Cancel, Retry or Continue.

Cancel or Retry starts the program and everything seems normal.

I've tried a fresh clean install with no difference.

Version 2.3 had no issues like this.

Should I go back to version 2.3, or stay with version 2.4, or is there a fix?

Thank you.

EDIT: I have an A: drive and when I try to add that as an exception, I get the same error message. But... I had no issues with this in version 2.3. My old IBM laptop with an A: drive can run version 2.4 though. Can't figure it out.

Any help is appreciated, it just seems to be an annoyance more than anything, but still a bug?

Hi jwall

Would you please give some information about the drive (size, free space, amount of Ram for example)

Cheers

The errors listed in the codes generally indicate a problem within Windows disk management. Not sure it will help but have you run a CHKDSK lately?

Sincerely,

-Mel

Live long and prosper!

[EDIT] : It seems particularly strange that it only occurs on the upgrade on this one machine and not the other. Don't think its a bug or glitch.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that.

Another strange thing, after Ii ran a defrag and fast optimize and exited the program, it was still in the task manager.

I'm wondering if I got a corrupt download?

Hi jwall

Is your settings to have it start up with Windows?

Hi jwall

Ok. (toggling the setting may work - i.e. On then Off)

Also - do you use the automatic function or the setting that minimize it to the tray when it is closed?

Cheers

solbjerg

No, it's not set to start with Windows.

I use nothing automatic and I have lit set for the icon not to stay in the system tray when closed.

I did run a chkdsk and I didn't watch the whole thing, but caught a glimpse of it that said the system was clean.

I haven't had a chance to reinstall smart defrag.

Hi jwall

When you have tried the "Clean Install" (link to the method in my signature) don't forget to check Documents&Settings/ Application data/ IObit/smartdefrag also.

If that doesn't help please send screenshots of all the settings in the program.

Cheers

I did delete the D&S app data and like I said, I have no automatic settings.

All options in settings are unchecked.

Even a fresh install with default settings causes the error message.

Version 2.3 worked perfectly, it was only when I installed 2.4 over it, so I assume my previous settings stayed the same.

Also, I even installed version 2.3 over version 2.4 and things returned to normal, everything worked perfectly.

I'm no expert, but it seems like maybe some glitch in 2.4 on some systems?

Sadly, I don't have a lot of time to devote to this, so I'm either going beck to version 2.3 or will try something else.

Thank you very much for your attention to this and if you think of something, let me know, or if I ever get it to work, I'll let you know.

Ok jwall

I tried placing a diskette in the A:\ drive and when I then opened SmartDefrag it showed an extra line the A:\ Fat format. This line disappeared when I removed the diskette. I got no error message.

One should not defrag diskettes or SSD (in my opinion) in any other way than copying them to a the computer -then format the diskette and then copy the saved file back onto it - it will then have become defragged.

As you may recall I had the setting to have it start up with windows and to have it minimize to tray. In order to have it open faster

This gave a setting in task manager that it was present and used about 15 MB - I then ran it and task manager then said 28 MB.

I closed it and changed the setting to not having it in the tray when closed - after that I right clicked the icon in the tray and chose to close it

Task manager didn't show the program then and the program therefore didn't use any resources. After a restart of the program it still didn't show in either the tray or the task manager.

Please infom me if you should find out why it behave as it does by you.

Thanks

jwall,

Are you saying that the A: drive is a 80.GB Hard-drive?

(I know it is possible to assign the A: letter to a hard-drive in W-7,

but it is Not a good thing to do, since it confuses many programs).

If so, I suggest you change that drive to be D:,

or some other letter if D: is used already.

No, a: drive is a floppy, c: is the 80 gig HD, and I have a zip and two cd drives all appropriately designated.

That said, when I start either version of SD, the a: drive will clunk a few times, but that happens with some other programs too without any issues.

It's only with version 2.4 I have problems with. In fact, I have never seen this error message before, ever.

Strange???

Does the floppy-drive still work properly, after you get that message?

I did an internet-search and found

that message can sometime mean that the floppy-drive has Failed,

but it can also mean other drive related problems.

And it seems to happen only with XP, not Windows-7, so you Know what My Suggestion would Be. :-)

Ah-Ha, 'One more Nail in the Coffin'!

Maybe we can find someone else with your combination of hardware and OS,

we can determine if it is something specific to your computer that version 2.4 is not compatible with?

I no longer have XP or Floppy-drives in any of our systems, so I have no way of testing.

Thanks. I just tried again after a successful chkdsk /f (system is clean and running fine otherwise) and a known good download of the program and I still get the error message.

So, it's back to version 2.3 or maybe something else, I don't know.

I'll keep checking in though.

Thanks again.

Other alternatives

I had similar issues on the one PC that is still running XP SP3. As soon as I applied the upgrade to version 2.4 I got Exception error messages. I can't say for sure if any were for the floppy, but the multi media card reader was sure an issue. I also uninstalled version 2.4 and went back to 2.3 and everything was working normally. It also affected ALL the PC's that were running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, since they also had multi media card readers.

I did a Web search for Free Windows Defrag software and found a review of 5 software, some were Command Line and some were GUI. I picked the top one that was GUI and downloaded it. I installed it on the Windows XP and the Windows 7 Ultimate pc's and everything works fine. It found the floppy drive on the XP pc, but did not put a check mark to defrag. It did the same for the USB flash memory being used as ReadyBoost on the Windows 7 pc's.

It also allows you to Not Show SSD drives, that you should not defrag.

There is an issue with SmartDefrag version 2.4 and I have been using SmartDefrag since version 1.

Can you direct me to the link or tell me which one you chose?

EDIT: Oops, I thought I'd catch he_ _ for asking. See below.

I really do like Smartdefrag though, the fast optimize really makes a difference.
