My Windows Experience Index score for my CPU has dropped from 6.2 to 3.9 for no apparent reason. Could you please provide me with some help? Thanks

Yes, as the caption reads my WEI for my CPU has dropped like a stone after over 2 years of repeated 6.2 scores for my Core i5-equipped (Arrandale 1st gen) Toshiba Satellite with 8gb memory - L555 s7008.

I have not paid much attention to my WEI though I have run it about 4 times previously. I'm not out thereall the time with a tape measure if you get my drift. But a couple of days ago I ran the utility to obtain a new WEI score only because my computer's performance seemed to degrade to a very noticeable point over the last week or so. And I was totally shocked when I saw that the 6.2 WEI score which my cpu has pulled every other time I have run it had plummeted to 3.9. Moreover, it has held stead at that 3.9 score even after I checked ALL of my system drivers, updating those that needed updating OR reverting the few driver updates I'd done recently back to the older driver.

I have also used System Restore to take this OS back as far as I could, which was about 2 weeks, but my computer still ran slow and the CPU score remained at 3.9.

I'm sure it happens but I have never heard of a CPU which only fails partially. I realize that the Core i5 (supposedly) is equipped with quad processors with 2 cores so I guess the thing could be running on only one core. I am definitely not very computer-literate - I have surface knowledge about a fair number of things but cannot go in the deep end. so I don't have much idea as to what to do except to do something I've never done before: Post a system report and ask knowledgeable people to identify indicators of things I can do something about.

I mainly do web-surfing and running Outlook 2010 and Word 2010. Probably the most CPU-intensive thing I do is that I end up opening a mess of tabs and windows, either on IE9 or Chrome and leaving them open. A few months ago I started running a program called Core Temp because I wanted to be able to track in real time how hot the processors get over long periods. What I noticed is that Core 0 always consistently ran about 10 degrees © hotter than Core 1, but that even Core 0 didn't ever go over 60 degrees C.

I have just noticed that my bus is indicated to be Quick Path Interconnect on-chip. Maybe it just has slipped my mind but I don't know that I can recall ever seeing QuickPath Interconnect stuff listed on my Device Manager. But maybe it has been. Maybe that will be a clue to someone.

well here it is and I do appreciate any comments you may have even if just to make fun of what a mess it seems to be because I suspect that it is. Thanks - B

WEI index

Hi there,

just a couple of comments.

The WEI score defaults to your lowest score, CPU in your case,

but none of your other scores are nowhere near your previous 6.2.

although you system restored, i would be more inclined to do;

1 back-up restore from your D drive, or

2 if you have them system repair from your OS discs.

option 2 is what i would choose.

i would also visit the MS site searching for drop in WEI score and google your CPU make and model for possible problems.

Roy
