Protected folder update

On going to open my protected folder I was offered an update, I accepted and went through the process and on a restart clicked on protected folder icon and all files had gone was asked to enter a password and confirm, still no files, just told to drag and drop just as if it was a new app downloaded. I did a system restore to yesterday which was successful, and on opening the protected folder was offered an update which I declined, all my files were there including one which I had only put in this morning. Did I do something wrong?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I would be very wary of updating in future.
