Recycle Bin's max-cleaning method: DOD or Gutman?

I've noticed in Settings a couple places for the DOD option to be checked, so comes the question...

 

Which is the most thorough in removing deletions: Gutman or DOD? I was under the impression it was Gutman, but recently the deletions (quite a few at once) were lightning fast rather than 'slower'.

 

Anything that will lighten the load on the H-D is a preferable option.

You are right that Gutmann method of deletion is more secure than DOD method.

 

Gutmann is 35 passes of deletion and DOD is 7 passes of deletion.

 

Normally, Gutmann should take about 5 times more than DOD, and if it is quicker, than there is a problem that Gutmann is not working as it should in your case.

Is it possible that the DOD boxes in Settings were already checked, thus causing Gutmann not to work as it should?

 

That would be easy enough to correct.

WriterJC, if the DOD checkboxes are not checked in Privacy Sweep and Junk Files Cleanning sections in Settings, then the deletion method is simle 1 pass deletion and not 35 pass Gutmann deletion for Repaair in ASC.

 

You can use Gutmann deletion method in File Shredder tool in Toolbox.
