Will not load with Windows startup

Recommended Posts

Just upgraded to ver. 1.03 and it won't load when Windows Vista Home Basic starts up.

Worked fine with 1.00 (or whatever my previous version was).

first make sure you have your settings right and run as windows startup. secondly, i dont believe that its not starting up. take a look at this thread

I saw that thread before posting and should have noted that it is NOT running. The first thing I checked - even before looking at this forum - was Task Manager, thinking maybe it was just that the icon wasn't showing..

Settings are definitely correct.

Is the permissions OK?

Did you install it and run as Administrator? And are you starting the PC with Admin. rights?

Cheers.

Yes.

Yes. Yes.

I'm a very experienced computer user. I've built and maintained my own (and other) machines for over 10 years now.

I'm about to uninstall it and see if I can find the older version (I may still have that on my notebook).

OK PD Montgomery,

I assume that it is running normally when you manually start.

How is it seen in the startup and which Registry section? (I mean the path and the switch).

No appearance in either the startup folder or the startup section of MSCONFIG.

Registry entries (search term: iobit) don't have a reference for startup.

OK PD Montgomery,

Let's add the entry ourselves and see if it works. Still assuming that SD works manually.

1)Method1

Open Registry Editor by typing regedit to Run in start, and

(Click start=>click Run=>type regedit=>click OK=>Registry Editor window)

Go To:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

-Add SmartDefrag as a New String Value (REG_SZ) to Run by right clicking on Run.

-Right click on SmartDefrag, and click Modify to open Edit String window.

-Type exactly as (You can copy and paste it.) :

"C:\Program Files\IObit\IObit SmartDefrag\IObit SmartDefrag.exe" /StartUp

to Value data in the Edit String window, and click OK.

-Close Registry Editor.

-Restart Windows.

2)Method2

-Open Startup Manager from Utilities of ASC 3.1.2

-Click Add a Program... on the left pane.

-Browse to IObit SmartDefrag.exe usually in: C:\Program Files\IObit\IObit SmartDefrag\IObit SmartDefrag.exe

-Click on it and click Open.

-Click OK on Startup Manager.

-Restart Windows.

I have tried to explain it in details, as other users with same problem may not be as experienced as you are.

Please post back for feedback.

Thank you.

Cheers
