"Delayed Write Failed" -> access to disk lost

Recommended Posts

I have a system that has two SATA and one PATA hard drive installed. When I run SmartDefrag on all three drives, the estimated time on the PATA drive first hits some 50 hours, then I get a "Delayed Write Failed" error and lose access to that drive.

No permanent damage, I regain access to the drive when I reboot, but I guess Smart Defrag has problems with SATA and PATA mixed on the same machine?

(has anyone else run into this?)

Thanks for your reply. Good point; I tested again, and it turned out there was actually something wrong with the hard drive itself. Even the basic WinXP Defrag ran into problems with it. Kind of odd though, because I could still read from and write to it normally.

I emptied the HDD, deleted the partition and reformatted the HDD (slower than I expected). I haven't had a chance to try defragmentation on it yet, because there's no data on it. But anyway, looks like it wasn't Smart Defrag's fault.
