DBAN = completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect to become unrecoverable.

 

If so can list any recommended setting and number of passes/rounds (Gutmann etc) for XP computers.

I have not tried it, but after using it, it may not be an empty disk, so on top of that a reformatting is better I suppose.

Ive used that in the past on my old win xp machine.

 

It works very well and removed everything off the HDD instead of just marking files to be written over.

Was very satisfied that nothing could be recovered either.

 

It felt good that my HDD was actually 100% clean instead of just being written over by other files, like a detox. :smile:
