ASC Downloads

I download a lot of free software; I have two different update notifiers that tell me if there is a newer version.

What’s not to like about all of this? One of my downloads, Advanced Windows Care, now called Advanced System Care, keeps sending me downloads that I do not need.

The notice pops up at the stage to click on run or save. It tells me that the download comes from http//software-files-1.cnet.com. About 30 seconds after I click on cancel for the download, I get this error message.

http://news.cnet.com says “Handler could not be removed.”

I get it on machines that do not even have ASC installed on them. That makes me think that it is sent to me, not my machine. I have also dumped all of my cookies, and cleaned out my member status at the CNET download site.

Nothing seems to help for very long. I have asked for help from CNET on this problem by e-mail three times and I get sent in another circle with no fix forthcoming.

So is it C-Net? Is it Advanced System care? Or maybe it is Win 7, I am getting no closer to an answer.

Cnet sends me in circles, Win 7 has no answers. I am not trying to apply blame here, just to stop my problem.

Do you have any ideas?

Can you help me make it stop?

Thank You
