MFT means Master File Table.

MFT is the area where the location of all files is recorded. NTFS file systems use the MFT area whereas FAT file systems use the FAT or File Allocation Table.

Keeping the MFT in one piece is said to have a positive effect on disk efficiency.

Unfortunately not many defraggers can handle the MFT area.
