Hi Cecilia

Since we're on opposite sides of the world (12 hours separating us), there may be some lag between your posts and my responses.

I'll ask two questions before we do anything else :

1) I see you have Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware (MBAM) which is trying to complete a cleanup there. Could you post a log from it here please ? If you don't know how to get a log, just launch the program and go to the Logs tab, where you'll find all the reports. Copy/paste the most recent one.

2) Do you have a router at home ? If so, could you tell me what brand it is, with a model number as well ?

On top of those two questions, I'd like you to run DDS on the laptop as well, then post both logs please. If you need 2 or more posts to get it all in, go ahead

See you soon !

Great, thanks

So you got a DNS changer infection back a long time ago, as I suspected. That one probably hijacked your router and the work computer is also suffering from a DNS hijack. We'll need to fix the router and I'll tell you how soon.

Can you confirm that the work computer also connects to this router ? Are there any other computers connecting to the D-Link ?

Next, I'll ask you to update MBAM (from the Update tab) and run a new scan (Quick Scan). Let it fix whatever it finds, then post the log here. Let me know about the work computer as well (regarding the router).

Thanks...

Work computer (office) doesn't link to laptop (home). Basically my home is connected to other computer which is 1 laptop and 1 computer.

Thanks ! I wasn't sure whether you worked from home or not. Answer is "not" lol. We might have a problem to fix on the router at work also, but we'll do that in the other topic. Work computer has more pressing issues than the DNS hijack though.

Back to this laptop :

I'll have you check some router settings :

- Log into your D-Link by typing this in your browser's address bar (and hit "Enter") : 192.168.1.1

- Once you've logged in, you need to go to the "Tools" tab (up top) and set yourself a new password for router access ; simply type in the username (admin is the default) and then the old password (should be tot by default). Then set yourself a new password (something not too complex - and write it down somewhere). Confirm the new password and click "Apply". The router should reboot itself. Log back in please.

- Once logged back in, go to the "Home" tab (up top) and then click the "DNS" button (left).

Tell me if "Enable Automatic Assigned DNS" box is checked or not. If it's not checked, you will see some DNS IP addresses below ; please write them down first, and next click to enable the "Enable Automatic Assigned DNS" box.

Click "Apply" and the router will reboot.

You will also need to reboot your computer once this is done

Let me know how it went and what DNS IPs you had there.

Let me know also if you're still getting the Google Analytics popups.

By the way, I looked at a manual for that router that I found here :

http://www.avbell.com/Manual/DSL_2640B/UserManualDSL_2640B.pdf

> If your router is a different version and you have a hard time finding those settings, please let me know and I'll find the correct manual.

You're probably in bed by now, so see you tomorrow I'm sure

Login and password really gave me a headache.

1) Try key the wireless id that given by provider didn't help. Admin/ToT also didn't help

2) reset my router which doesn't help.

Finally found after a search in Bing.com, http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1384145 one of the member gave is tmuser/tmuser for this modem DSL-2640B, firmware GE_1.07

Hi Cecilia :-)

I'm sorry about all that, but it needed to be done I assure you. I just wish D-Link could make it easier on us and not set weird or different passwords for different firmwares. Good job on finding it. My suggestion to you would have been to check the CD-ROM that came with the router, which contains the manual for that particular model and firmware.

Now, did you see some odd DNS IP addresses when you went in there ?

How are things now ?

Ah, Ok then. I was trying to avoid having you redo the whole setup by simply correcting the DNS addresses. Setting your own password was important though, because that will prevent future hijacks on the router ; the bad guys are able to access routers which have default username and password configuration, but not those with custom logins.

Try and surf with it and let me know if there are any signs of trouble : popups, redirects, etc...
