MFT file space

Recommended Posts

I've just downloaded beta 4.03. I find some of my disc space is marked as MFT. What does this mean?

In an NTFS filesystem it means 'Master File Table'. I can go along with this.

But IO defrag shows over 10% of a 50Gb drive as being MFT. Not for one drive, but for two.

Can anyone advise me as to what is showing?

Regards

Hi rchas,

The default space reserved for MFT enlargement is 12.5% in Windows XP.

Most probably, what you see is MFT+MFT enlargement area (MFT Zone), which by default, should be greater than 12.5% of the total disk space.

Please have a look at this post by samr.

Also you will find useful information in Think_about_Defragmentation!!! thread.

Cheers.
