Alexa Toolbar

Recommended Posts

i run Win2000, IE6 and Avira antivirus.

i am a real newbie at using SmartDefrag and AWC Personal.

what happened is that i downloaded and ran both of them, and now in IE my Alexa toolbar installs as a blank, narrow toolbar instead of a functional blue toolbar.

does anyone have any suggestions how to get the Alexa toolbar back?

i uninstalled the SmartDefrag and AWC.

i posted this under the "bugs and suggestions" thread but got no replies as of yet.

i am not that computer savvy, but any suggestions are welcome.

thanks.

Hi gracer,

Alexa is considered to be a tacker/data miner by most antispyware software.

SmartDefrag is nothing to do with Alexa.

AWC Personal have immunized your system against the data mining function of it.

If you really want to use Alexa, you can uncheck it in AWC.

You don't have to uninstall AWC, because uninstalling it will not bring back Alexa, but, recovering a backup of AWC, will.

It is neither a bug nor a function to be taken of by IObit in AWC.

If you want to use Alexa, try to install it again, if not possible, than try uninstalling it before reinstalling.

If you want to use it together with AWC, after "Scan" with AWC, go to "Security Defence", click "show details".

In the "Infection defence" section, type "a" and then "l" (AL), you will see that:

"Alexa Description:Installed with .............", will be highlighted.

Uncheck the checkbox, click Apply Settings" button, click "OK" button.

From that time on, you will notice that there will be 1 problem after Scan of "Security Defence"

For a better understanding of Alexa, please have a look at here .

Cheers.
