  1. Hello Cicely,

Always had issues with DB v. 2 installing drivers that seem it mess up my systems, however, I decided to give DB3 a try. Most drivers I already had updated myself manually, like NVidia and Relatek, however, with this machine, trying to find the newest driver for a 4 yr. old Dell Alienware running Intel is a royal pain in my brain. DB3 seems to have updated all those hard to find drivers, both Intel & Dell, that made my life horrible! Thus far, no issues that I have found, and system seems to run very nicely.

I will keep ya informed if I come across any problems!

    Thanks,

  2. Hey Cicely,

Been running ASC9 Beta 1, checking it out for about 1 Week +, while still running ASCU 8.1 and noticed a slight difference in the scanning. Posting results of a scan from a few minutes ago, where I ran the scans at the same time! Also, ya will notice, Performane Monitor for ASCU8.1 works fine for me, but the 9.1 version can't find my temperatures. Using Dual monitors, therefore screenshot can show what I'm referring to.

  3. Hello Cicely,

So been running SD4 beta 2 for the past few days since its released, and I gotta say, it seems to be running smooth. I set Schedule Defrag at night to "Defrag & Prioritize Files", let it do its thing, get up in the morning, I notice the window is up and ready to be informed to "Finish". I ran it again to just confirm it done what its suppose to do with same option on manual, and it takes less than a minute to defrag. Works like a charm for my type of setup. I went to test the setting option bug I reported earlier w/ beta 1 regarding the "Skip files large than", I kept the setting unchecked, but move the bar to 100MB instead of 10GB, ran a manual "Defrag & Prioritize Files". Defrag ran for a minute or 2, then once it was complete, I went to view report, and confirmed that the defrag DID NOT skip any files. This confirmed for me that that bug is corrected.

Couple things come to mind that you all might want to consider prior to final release. First, as nice as it is to have an estimated time for completion, I found that it’s completely inaccurate. In the previous run I was talking about, I watched the est. time climb up to 25 minutes for my C Drive to complete, then the drive did complete a couple seconds later. The whole physical drive only took maybe 2 minutes for the program to do the whole Defrag put each drive estimated time was way higher than the actual time it took to defrag. If you can fix this, AWESOME, however, if you can't, then I would consider losing it all together. Only other suggestions I would give is:

    1) An addition to the Disk Defrag tab, above the Disk Drive icons, have the info of last Defrag done and type of Defrag preformed... I know this info is given when you mouse over the system tray icon for SD4, but it would be really nice to have that info be right in front of you as soon you open SD4 window opens up.

    2) I know I mentioned this before, but if it's possible, I believe it would be great if the simultaneous Defrag of multiple drives be returned from SD3 w/ the speed of the current consecutive Defrag algorithm. Also, I repeat my suggestion of meters above Defragging window if you bring the simultaneous defragging back, where these meters would show in one place the actual percentage of completion of defragging of each drive “in real time”. I suggested this back in post #50 of this thread.

Overall, I’m really impressed with SD4, since I got tired of the resource hog “Diskeeper” became, and had to spend many hours of testing and infecting my machine w/ BOGUS system defragging software that where just programs designed to infect your machine deliberately. SD has been my defragging software of choice for about a year now, even though I have been using ASC for longer than that. Sorry, it just took me a while to get off of Diskeeper with its “Defragging as it writes new files to the Hard Drive”. That feature was AWESOME, but as the program progressed, it became a severe “resource hog”.

  4. Hello Cicely,

Noticed something that is confusing me... So you guys get a clear picture, I have my HS partitioned into 3 parts{ C Drive being Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, which is for OS only and files that have to be w/ the OS, D Drive is my Applications Drive which is al my Apps, and E Drive is my Data Storage. So... After a couple manual Defrags, I noticed that C & E drives defragged normally, comparing before & after numbers and seeing a slight improvement on both, meaning that those are defragged properly. However, this is what is confusing me, my D Drive is defragged with no improvement from before & after and has some red (fragmented) clusters). Thinking about this and considering that I have a approx. 24 GB game installed on that drive And had did a Game defrag prior, I suspected that the re clusters may be in fact my game and could be isolated for that purpose. Does this sound correct, or can you all explain for me? I'm attaching a screenshot to show ya what I'm talking about!

    Thanks!

Regarding this post, you can ignore this question due to the fact that after reading the posts, I did a little investigation of my own and found the problem. However, I did find a bug in the settings and can confirm what an earlier post stated. In an earlier post, someone stated that the setting for "skipping files larger than" option was unchecked, but his report had large files that was skipped. So, when I setup my settings for yesterday's defrags, I left this box un-checked as well, because I wanted a very complete defrag of my HD. The slider bar for the setting was set at files larger than 100MB. Today, I went back into that setting and slid the bar it 10GB, however this shouldn't have matter because the checkbox was still clear. I then did a manual Defrag w/ Prioritizing Files, and am now getting a complete Defrag, to include the D Drive with my game that has some very large files in it. Currently, I can now confirm that all fragments are being corrected, however, the bug is in the fact that whether or not the checkbox for skipping files is checked or not, the setting bar for skipping files IS still being applied to the program, even when it shouldn't be. I'm not posting the debug info file as of yet, since I see no real need now, however, if you still need it, please inform me & I'll send via PM message or something.

Update: As I was writing this post, my defrag did complete and is completely done properly with all fragments corrected. Until this bug is corrected, I can recommend that users temporarily set the "skip files larger than" bar to 10 GB, so that they can get a complete defrag until beta 2 comes out.

  5. @ ACCPresidentLB, Happy to hear that you love our Smart Defrag v4.

For the issue "Defrag & Prioritize, do you mean it is different in manual defrag and Scheduled Defrag? Because Defrag Only is only available in Auto Defrag.

Hey Cicely, yes, regarding "Defrag & Prioritize" in Schedule Defrag... When I run this overnight, then compare it with a run when I get up in the morning and do a manual "Defrag & Prioritize", you would think it would maybe take a couple seconds to only defrag any files used in the idle state after the scheduled run. However, I on several times of doing this process, I have seen where it may take 5-10 minutes for the manual "D&P" to redo & "correct" what was done during the Scheduled "D&P". The Analyze map also confirms that the Defrag isn't the same, even though the Settings for both styles of defrag are the same. Please remember I am referring to previous versions of SD is when I have seen this happen. Unknown if this is the case in SD4 beta and I will attempt this tomorrow & get back to you on whether I see this happen in SD4.

For the suggestion " add an area going across that shows a progress bar for each partition/drive that is similar to the temp meters on the Performance Monitor of ACS8", could you please describe it more clealry with rleated screenshots? Do you mean

I took another screenshot to add here of the window I am referring to at Fullscreen, hopefully the image is more readable. Looking at this screen, you see the defrag map of the partition/drive you are in the tab for. I am suggesting in a small area above the drive tabs, have a meter for each drive to show the progress of all the drives. For example: you in the tab viewing the defragging being done for the C drive, all you (the user) would have to do is glance upwards and see the progress of the other drives being defrag simultaneously where the meter would show progress done, and underneath that meter you would see an estimate time of completion for that drive/partition to complete. Now keep in mind, like someone else brought to your attention in an earlier post and I did too after double-checking the post I read, currently with SD4, the GUI is showing that it defrags each drive back to back, whereas in previous SD versions, the drives did actually defrag simultaneously. If this is to return to the program, which I hope will, then my suggestion would be an added plus, allowing the users to review the status of all defragging w/o the flipping of the tabs.In the second screenshot, you see the meters I was referring to, just make the same meters only have them display the defrag process of the drives in a percent of the drive completed and the would fill as the drive percent completed goes towards completion. Hope that gives a better visual for you all to work with regarding what I'm suggesting.

  7. Hello Cicely,

Just did format of machine from Windows 7 Ultimate OEM, installed ASC8 Ultimate, and running with no problems at all. Not sure what was the issue w/ ASC8 Pro after final release (I suspect it had to do w/ code for real-time protection, but issues were too severe for me to continue to test for ya), but it seems to not have carried over into ASC8 Ultimate.

Now for Smart Defrag 4 Beta... DUDES, I gotta say, ya went "Over the top" w/ this version. The GUI is "SWEET". Love the icons, the layout, the colors, the Game defrag... Just everything! Only tiny addition I would suggest is when in the window for the Defragging happening, you have the tabs based on the partitions and/or multiple HDs, I would lower the defrag maps and tabs slightly, to add an area going across that shows a progress bar for each partition/drive that is similar to the temp meters on the Performance Monitor of ACS8. These bars would fill based on percentage of Defragging of that partition/drive completed with an estimated time completion of that drive underneath the meter. That's it! I would so hate to see any other GUI changes made to the current setup, and really can't see how you could make it better.

One other thing I would ask you guys to double-check with this version that I suspected in Smart Defrag 3.3 and earlier, is that the Defrag & Prioritized setting in Automatic Defrag didn't seem to do the same Defragging as in the manual defragging. My machine could do an Auto Defrag w/ the setting at Defrag & Prioritized, and in the morning before I do anything on my machine, I would do a manual Defrag with same setting, and the drives would have a 5-10 different defrag, which made no sense to me???

I also got to say that the new defragging method is FAST! I got a 750 GB Seagate Hybrid drive (I know not the best I could have), but this new version of SD is no joke to defragging my drive now. I just simply LOVE it.

    Hi ACCPresidentLB,

For the AutoCare error, can the error reproduce? Because related screenshots will be very useful to check it.

Guide for taking a screenshot: http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/gen...screenshot.htm

For the fan speed issue, please download the tool from

    http://testdemo.iobit.com/InfoHelperV8.exe

Then double click to run this tool and click “Save report to Desktop”. So you will get zipped file IObit_Debug_Info.zip on your desktop. Please send it to us so that we can look into the issue further.

Thank you very much for your work.

    Howdy Cicely,

Was able to get two screenshots for ya, had to do some cropping of personal stuff from the images, but you can see enough from the screenshots to get an idea what I'm referring to. This error is reproducible since it happens every time I try to setup Autocare for scheduling at an specific time of day. It may be the fact that I'm running ASC 7 Ultimate at the same time and have it setup already for Autocare in 7. So, to explain the images... The first image is what happens when I click the "Configure" button for Specific time. First error message stays on screen for about 1 min or so, then either locks on my screen to where I have to CRTL/Alt/Delete and close out through processes, but before that happens, I get the error message from the second screenshot.

Regarding your second request, was able to use the tool, no problem, but I started looking at the info created, and am a little concern regarding seeing info in there I may not like to share (No Offense plz!). Ex.: My account name for my computer an other info I'm seeing... didn't go into the info too thoroughly, but, please, can you be more specific as to what exactly you need from it so I can send that info to you w/o sharing info I may wish not to share. Yes, I'm very security concerned regarding private/personal info being shared. I hope you all understand.

  13. Hello Cicely,

Ok, so been running Beta 3 for about a week, putting it through the paces... I gotta say, I'm really am enjoying using the newest version. I have ran into an issue, not sure if it has been brought to your attention or if its something acting funky on my machine. In Settings, when trying to setup AutoCare for a scheduled time, the program errors out, giving an error message seems to be coming start from the program itself, them a get little Windows error box (that I really haven't seen since Windows 98) with message "An error occurred in the application.", referring to ASC.exe. Just look into this please & let me know if this is the program or my machine please.

Suggestions: Love the weather add-on into the Performance Monitor, however, I'm not a fan of "google", Yahoo!', etc. Is there a way to add a setting feature that can give the user the option of a couple alternate sources for that feature, like, The Weather Channel (one I prefer), AccuWeather, etc. Next, Still loving the temp monitors & think you also added the mainboard since Beta 2??? They seen to be working, but something with doesn't seem right. The one that is really bugging me is the Fan Speed. Unless they have one something new in laptop & my knowledge is outdated(which could be highly possible at my age! LOL), but the fan speed monitor on my machine seems to be telling me my fan rpms is completely unstable??? It bounces from a low of 1300 to as high as 3000(higher when I game on STO, which is not a too high of demanding game).

Also, loving the more tools added in the toolbox... these really help me in getting the best out of an 1 1/2 yr. machine that was running really poorly before AMD started updating drivers for Toshiba & Sony Laptops. Due to poorly written drivers that Toshiba tends to stop updating prematurely, I have had to rely on ACS & Driver Booster for getting the newest drivers for my hardware that isn't Toshiba specific. The decision to drop as many Toshiba drivers I could was probably a decision that prevented me from replacing a laptop that wasn't really as bad as it seemed. Again, gotta thank you all on that one... shows that the software you all are creating, DOES its job.

  18. Morning Cicely,

I see IObit did indeed go with a rework for the Performance Monitor in Beta 2 and I have to say, "WOW!" Was so blown away with the addition of the Temps meters in the rework, very AWESOME! Wish that had been part of my suggestion!!! LOL I do have to ask though... I'm getting temp reading of 212 degrees for my CPU and no reading on fan speed... was thinking my CPU fan in my Laptop may have went out, but after removing the keyboard, and a toothpick in the fan, I found it is working fine. This is an AMD A8-4500M Laptop which means the GPU is in the CPU... therefore reading 122 degrees for GPU with a 212 degrees for CPU doesn't make sense to me? Whatever you guys do, I love this addition, but can we confirm that these meters are reading the proper sensors? Not sure myself if this would be something that could/should be setup properly per each machine by the user or what.... I so love this idea... Maybe change color scheme in temp meters to a green (good), yellow (Warning), and red (Danger Temp) or maybe user choice in settings like the setting for PC Health. Also, please bring back the PC Health grade in the Monitor at the top above the graphs, making sure it doesn't take up too much space. Seen the new screenshot icon... I need to check this new feature out before inputting on it... it seems that it might be very beneficial, but gotta play with it some first.

ASC8 is really starting to be an awesome update version to an already fantastic software. You guys are really on the right track! If I may add as a reminder for you guys (without offending): Keep it simple enough for the basic user, but also "geeky" for the advance user, A fine line to walk, but thus far, really looks like you guys have some serious "tightrope skills"!

  23. Thank you for your reply Cicely...

Was still thinking on the detail Performance Monitor and something just didn't seem right to me... couldn't figure it out right away, then it hit me: The Boost Button & Shutdown button. First, I was expecting when the Boost Button was used and activated, I was expecting it work much like a toggle switch in the manner that if Boost is activated, it would light up neon Blue, and once it was deactivated, light would go out. I noticed the message light up under it, which is nice, and its timeout to disappear seemed properly set, but the toggle light for the button would make it more apparent when Boost is running.

It also came to mind, that for me anyway, the Shutdown Button is a waste. I have been using ASC for years (since version 5, I believe), and am aware that the shutdown button was suggested and introduced a while back, but I started thinking maybe it's time to consider integrating Smart Memory directly into the Performance Monitor (PM) with its button and its setting built right into ASC. In the settings, you could have a check box for starting with Windows/ASC and all the settings that the program has in its standalone, then have a button in PM that works on same principle that I suggested for the Boost Button. It is my strong belief that Smart Ram should also be integrated in the ASC Care Scan also (which I believe it once was, maybe??? Memory fuzzy!). This goes back to your marketing of a "1-click" maintenance software. My personal belief is that the shutdown should be replace with this Smart Ram button, but the masses of users may think otherwise, but at least add a button in for it.

Again, just suggestions & "food for thought" on how it improve on the wonderful product you have constantly been improving over the years. I really want to give a "Hats-Off" to IOBit for not following the masses of scam programs out there, just to make a quick buck on the novice users, but instead you're offering a state of the art maintenance software that is easy for novice user to understand, and it still has the quality performance that advance users (geeks like me... LOL) want. I have many friends in MMOs that have had issues in their PCs all over the U.S. and since I can't be there hands on to aid them, I ALWAYS suggest them download ASC and use its tools to aid in troubleshooting and optimizing their PCs performance during our troubleshooting process.
