If IObit is auto-defragging in the background, why the scheduled and manual defrags?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but since I can find no "help" within the program itself, and can't seem to find the answer elsewhere, I'm asking the question here.

As I understand it, IObit is automatically defragmenting in the background as you use your computer. If that is the case, what is the purpose of a "scheduled" or "manual" defragmentation? It would seem to me that a continuing background defragmentation should keep your computer completely defragmented at all times!

I don't understand!!!

Thanks.

Hi Marshallo,

I understand that your question is why would you need to do a manual or scheduled defrag if auto defrag is always running.

The auto defrag helps to keep it defragged, helping to keep computer running smoothly. It is not enough by itself to keep up with the large amount of fragmentation in Windows. You should still use a full defrag occasionaly to keep everything running smooth.

I found that if you start with comprehensive defrag (full optimizing-takes longer) then for quick defrag on scheduled it does a really good job. Every once in a while I go back and run comprehensive.

Thanks for explaining, guys! :-D

I have also started a new thread (so far not replied to) about having a completely non-functional graph on my Manual Defrag page, but, after contacting the IOBit team, I just received an Email from them telling me that they are aware of this problem and are trying to fix it.

Originally--especially after I noticed the second problem--I had planned to uninstall SmartDefrag, but, for now, I'll just keep it for a while and hope for the best!

Thanks again!

MARSHALL
