Smart Defrag Update Message

Hello

 

Would anyone be able to tell me if it is possible to stop Smart Defrag from prompting when a new version is available.

 

I am looking to deploy this software to users who will not be able to install software, so little point in letting them know.

Yes-Options > uncheck "Automatically check for updates". I don't think we'll see a newer version for quite some time though.

I don't know how many times i looked on the options and did not register the check box for updates. I am going to hide in a quiet darkened room for a few days. :oops:

JonPP- Don't feel bad. A lot of people including myself have had the same reaction after being Detailed!

I am back for the dark place, still with updates. Can the update option be edited in the registry so auto update is off for all users.

Hi JohnPP,

 

I will give you the possible locations of Smart Defrag's config.ini file in Xp, Vista and win7.

(I don't have an XP around now, so for XP, it is as far as I remember)

 

XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\[user Name]\Application Data\IObit\IObit SmartDefrag\

 

Vista, Win7:

C:\Users\[user Name]\AppData\Roaming\IObit\IObit SmartDefrag\

 

Open it with notepad and change the value below from "1" to "0".

 

[setting]

AutoCheckUpdate=1

 

Change to:

 

AutoCheckUpdate=0

 

 

Save the file and see if that helps.

The C:\IOBit directory seems to be the default location of the config.ini file for the PC. The config.ini file that is located here is used by SmartDefrag when configuring a new user.

 

I adjusted my SmartDefrag settings using the GUI interface then copied the config.ini file from my Application Data (full path in another post) file to the C:\IObit\SmartDefrag directory and no longer had problems with the Update message popping up for new users.

Hi mjwlaz,

 

IObit default directory is not where you point out, and the config.ini file is at exactly in the same location as given in post # 6 in this thread for different OSs.

Default location of main folder of IObit Smart Defrag for all OSs is at: C:\Program Files\IObit\IObit SmartDefrag
