Help Please

 

Hi Evil

 

OK went to MS. site, it ran the computer check and stated " the update

(KB979683) has been downloaded but needs to be installed so I clicked install the panel came up it "successfully installed" clicked finish left the MS. site went back into MS. site, it ran the computer check and stated " the update (KB979683) has been downloaded but needs to be installed, seems to me that I have this "bug", malware? whatever that is stopping the installation of this critical update !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I am in your hands now, advice on what to do next please.

Are you restarting the computer after installing the update?

 

Please run a new HijackThis scan and post the log.

 

Also post an uninstall list.

 

Create An Uninstall List

 

* Start HijackThis

* Click on the Open the Misc Tools section

* Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

* Click on the Save list button and specify where you would like to save this file and click Save.

* When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.

* Copy and paste that list in your reply.

Create An Uninstall List

 

* Start HijackThis

* Click on the Open the Misc Tools section

* Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

* Click on the Save list button and specify where you would like to save this file and click Save.

* When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.

* Copy and paste that list in your reply.

You have restarted the computer after installing it right?

 

 

 

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall:

  • Java 6 Update 20 <- Do not uninstall this!

Try Dial-a-fix.

 

Download Dial-a-Fix by djlizard, save it to the desktop then extract it to it's own folder.

 

  • Open the folder and run Dial-a-fix.exe
     
  • 2 windows will open. Close the one in the background labeled Restrictive Policies
     
  • Check the box in section 1, Empty temp folders.
     
  • Check the box in section 2, Fix Windows Installer.
     
  • Check the box in section 3, Fix Windows Update.
     
  • Check the box in section 4, labeled SSL/HTTPS/Cryptography. The 4 boxes under it should be pre-checked
     
  • Check all boxes in section 5, labeled Registration Center.
     
  • Click Go
     
  • OK any error messages if received, but write them down and post them here.
     
  • Restart the computer when done.

 

Is the problem fixed?

Having problems when uninstalling Java:

 

at first got message "Fatal error during installation" as I went down the list, then one uninstalled I then kept going as I felt they needed to be done in order but now stuck with:

 

5.0 update 11

5.0 update 6

Runtme environment 6 update 1

 

"Fatal error during installation" on each of them.

They are probably already uninstalled which is why you get that error.

 

Delete An Uninstall Entry

  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Open the Misc Tools section
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Highlight the entry you want to remove.
    • 5.0 update 11
    • 5.0 update 6
    • Runtme environment 6 update 1

    [*]Click Delete this entry

Now run JavaRa again.

 

Download JavaRa

* Unzip the file and open the JavaRa.exe

* Click Remove Older Versions

* JavaRa will search for and remove any outdated version of Java and remove any that are found.

* Click Additional Tasks

* Place a check next to Remove Useless JRE Files and click Go

* Exit JavaRa

* Delete the JavaRa files from the desktop

Hi Evil

 

Well that was fun, after running dial-a-fix the computer crashed and I culd not get internet access, it was 4am here nd I had been up since 7am the day before and was shattered so I went to bed, got up this morning 10am have tried various things then reinstalled orange CD (INTERNET SETUP) as you can se back on line.......

 

Got lots of error messages while running Dial-a-fix:

Hi Evil

 

well it's still playing up but not as bad as it did before,thanks for the links but I am running XP not vista.

 

my main problem is IE. keeps freezing and when I close one IE. window they all close and IE. will not open unless you reboot although if you open task manager it shows all the IE'S that where clicked to open.

The first link deals with XP. You have to scroll down to the RESOLUTION section.

 

Do you have an XP CD?

 

If so, place it in your CD ROM drive and follow the instructions below:

 

* Click on Start > Run and type sfc /scannow then press Enter on your keyboard. (note the space between scf and /scannow)

* Let this run undisturbed until the window with the blue progress bar goes away.

 

If you do not have an XP CD try running it anyway. Let me know if anything is found or what errors you get.
