smart defrag and multiple disks

Recommended Posts

I Have Two Disks C:\ D:\

I Use The Check Boxes To Select These Drives

Once The Application Has Been Minimised To The Systray Icon These Settings Are Lost

I Even Tried Just Selecting Drive C:\

It Still Wont Hold The Setting

Does This Mean Autodefrag Will Not Work

I've Also Got Norton Systemworks Installed And Keep An Eye On The Defrag State Of The Drives

It Still Creeps Up

Does This Mean Smart Defrag Isn't Defragging My Drive As It Goes

My Computer Is Left On For 12hrs At A Time So It Has Ample Idle Time To Work Its Magic

I'm Not Convinced Its Doing This

I've just installed beta 4.3

It holds disk selection while in the systray but when computer restarts you lose them again.

ILL ASK AGAIN ARE THESE SELECTIONS NEEDED FOR SMARTDEFRAG TO WORK CORRECTLY

I HAD SOME TIME ON MY HANDS SO THOUGHT ID TRY TO REPAIR BUILT IN DEFRAG

WORKED THROUGH SOME TIPS ID FOUND

THE ONE THAT WORKED FOR ME IS MY MEMORY PAGING WAS SWITCHED OFF

THIS WAS REZSET TO COMPUTERE CONTROL AND DEFRAG STARTED WORKING

A BONUS IS THAT THE DRIVE SELECTIONS IN SMARTDEFRAG ALSO STAY SELECTED

EVEN WHEN COMPYTER RESTARTED

ALL I CAN DO NOW IS WAIT AND MONITOR DEFAG STAATE AND SEE IF IT APEARS TO WORK

I POSTED THIS FIX ON THE WEB AT

HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEBODY

As far as I know those checkboxes are not necessary for the automatic defrag operation. You need them indeed for the manual defrag and one can say there's something wrong with the checkboxes getting unchecked from time to time. Nevertheless when using the standard Windows defragmentation program you've to select each time which disk you want to defragment. So the automatically unchecking behavior is not so bad after all.

can you move this thread to:

I think it is more or less about the same subject.

I agree, I don't think it's required at all for the automatic defrag. You should only need to select which drive(s) when doing a manual defrag. I'm pretty sure it assumes which drive is primary, because if you do a fresh install, it starts auto-defragging without prompting you for a drive letter.
