AWC 2.8 adds Yahoo! Search to IE7 Instant Search box

I just installed AWC 2.8 and now every time I open it, it makes Yahoo! Search the default provider in Internet Explorer 7's Instant Search box. How do I stop this malicious behavior?

Hi gopackgo,

When AWC is installed, it pops up with a page asking if you want to install Yahoo toolbar.Did you uncheck the box for that option? If not,it was installed. I would check for yahoo toolbar in add & remove programs. Un-install if you do not want it.

You bet I unchecked the box for installing Yahoo! Toolbar, I also unchecked the box that set Yahoo! as the homepage. Is no one else having this happen to them?

AWC 2.8 adds Yahoo! Search to IE7 Instant Search box!!!

Yes, it is true...

Yes, I unchecked the boxes...

Yes, it is not listed in my Add / Remove Programs...

Yes, I even uninstalled and reinstalled the program - twice.

I am not infected with anything!

I set my default search engine to Google, and then delete the Yahoo option.

Then, I just open up AWC 2.8 - and the default search engine changes!

Version 2.7 did not do this - Why??

Why is not the "Yahoo Partner Toolbar" listed as an added new item in the History / Change Log???

What are you folks trying to hide? Sounds like malicious behavior to me!

You folks need to fix this - and fast - it would be a shame if I had to leave a few "FYI Postings" in various places of interest -

No possible way I want to be forced to use Yahoo anything and I'm interested particularly now because I logged on to find out why I seem to be deluged lately with emails that are targeted...such as new phising.

I will cancel if I find that AWC is partnered with Yahoo

I downgraded yesterday...

Because of the forced malicious behavior of the new AWC Version 2.8 and the Yahoo Search Toolbar, yesterday I went to Download.com and found the last version, AWC Version 2.7.2, and installed it on my system...

and so far the "bug" has not come back!

Hmmm....

Still waiting for someone from the "powers to be" to come up with some kind of explanation as to why this is / was happening to our default searchs and what to do to stop it from happening again in the future.

Just checked my version, its 2.8.0.971 and has been installed about 2 weeks or so. Have not had any of the problems posted here on the tool bar issue. And yes, if you do NOT uncheck the Yahoo thingee it will install. Will be watching this thread for further notices.

I just uninstalled and re-installed AWC Pro v2.8.0.971, deselecting the install Yahoo toolbar option. The toolbar was not installed, but Yahoo search was added to the IE instant search box and made the deafult search engine. I made Google the default and removed Yahoo. The next time I restarted AWC, Yahoo was again added to the IE instant search box and made the default.

I''m very disapointed in IObit. As a rule, I don't run software that changes my system without telling me, or forces me unnecessarily to use my PC in a certain way. I've uninstalled AWC for the time being.

Hello fellows,

Please give IObit some time, I have already contacted Tim, and requested to change that behavior.

FYI:

I 100% agree with the idea that AWC should not change the default search engine without asking the permission from the user, if not change at all.

Okay...

Well, it seems that I am not crazy after all!!!

You see, what it really going on here, and it's being done on purpose....

It's called: Adware or Spyware

Pure and simple. In fact - it's called BS-ware, if you ask me.

I am glad someone has taken some action and someone been informed of this and the problem will be resolved in a timly fashion - lets hope so at least.

I am going to give this a few more days, due to the July 4th holiday and all.

Then I start FYI Posts around at important security forums.

Please respond / post here when you have come up with a positive solution.

I am sorry if I am a bit on the rude side, but I do not put up with this kind of crazy !@?+#*@!* stuff.

Thank you again for your time,

Thanks enoskype. Appreciate you taking the lead on this.

BTW...I really like the title Mediator as opposed to Moderator...kinda highlights the in-the-line-of-fire mode you guys have to operate in sometimes. :-P

Hi, everyone

So sorry for the trouble.

We noted the bug yesterday either and stopped the releasing of v2.8.0. We have fixed the bug and will release v2.8.1 very soon.

Sorry again.

Thanks for the response IObit Guy.

Everybody,

You can find the link to (default Yahoo search! bug issue solved) AWC Pro 2.81 in this_thread .
