  1. Hi Luckyvic,

Yeah, I had a real fun experience with it myself. But as soon as I ran this fix it went right in with no problems. I have seen that this has been really bad for several people updating to SP3. The problem seems to be that the update has to completely back up your registry & system files, rip them apart and put them back together. But there seems to be a problem with permissions on some registry keys. Running this fix changes the permissions on all the registry keys and allows SP3 to install with no problems. I just had to stick all the hair back in my head that I pulled out the first time I ran the update! I really hate seeing messages like " Service pack 3 partially installed. Windows may not function ". Makes me just a little uneasy.

  2. If you try to install XP Service Pack 3 and come up with an "access denied" warning, save yourself some major headaches and click "abort" and read this article. I spent a whole evening trying to fix a failed installation. This fix took care of it:

    http://www.askvg.com/windows-xp-service-pack-3-sp3-setup-error-access-is-denied/

(p.s.: Where it says to right click on file then "run as administrator", just click "open".)

  3. Hi noru2,

You should try uninstall-CLEAN install of latest version.Read install & un-install sections of this post:

    http://forums.iobit.com/showthread.php?t=509

Be sure to delete program folder after un-install and clean up registry with Ccleaner:

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

Then dowload V 2.7.0.838 from here:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Advanced_WindowsCare_d4991.html

Be sure to save to desktop, then use properties-to remove any blocking before running the install.

  4. Hi solbjerg,

Sometimes something like getting a dishwasher can be exciting and you want to jump right in and try it out because you know how much easier your life will be once you start using it. But I guess it does pay to take the time to read the manual after downloading ( I mean getting it out of the box and hooking it up). You might have saved yourself from having a mess! Live & learn.

    Cheers,

    samr.

  5. Hi noru2,

Go to Program Files-Iobit-AWC and see if there is an "Errorloig.txt" file.Open it and scroll to the bottom and see if it says anything about "Ref.dbd missing". If so, download the latest ref.dbd file from http://www.iobit.com/files/Ref.dbd

and save it in the AWC program folder. Sometimes it is missed in the installation and it will cause it to do that. Once it is saved in AWC folder it should scan fine next time.

  6. Hi coolj,

You might check for backups in the restore center again. They do not show until AWC is closed and re-opened again. If they still don't show, open the Iobit program file-AWC- then backups. See if they are being created . They are not listed by date, but will show as a registration entry.

If there are none there, open Restore center in AWC-Settings and make sure there are green checks in the "available modules" boxes that you want backed up.

  7. Hi coolj,

The create restore point when the software is installed is an option to create a Windows System Restore point, which is not available in Win 2000 Pro.It starts with XP. When installing on 2000 just click No when asked if you would like to create a System restore point. It runs fine on 2000 pro , I have it on one of my machines.

The AWC backups are created when you run the scan and repair from the main scan window. Changes can be put back in from the restore center. They will be listed by date and time.

  8. Hi enoskype,

You have some great ideas here, and seeing the comparisons of the different programs gives a different perspective of how each work. I also agree that an offline (boot) defrag would be a very important addition to ISD!

I am curious about this statement:

"With contrary to some of my friends in the Forum, if you have enough RAM (Random Access Memory) and CPU (Central Processing Unit), I am a believer of neither stopping any programs in the Taskbar, nor defragmenting in the Safe Mode without Startup programs."

I have always been under the understanding that by stopping the startup programs or defragging in safe mode it allows these programs to be defragged, where as they can't be defragged properly while in use. Could you explain this further?

I would also like to hear anyone else's thoughts on this (and any of the other ideas you bring up on defrag!)

    Thanks, samr.

  9. Hi DAA,

Are there system restore points in windows? The restore point that AWC asks you if you want to create is in windows system restore. You might try that. Also, the program restore back ups will not show until the program has been completely closed (from tray)and re-opened.

If you do a system restore make sure that the next time you scan you click the "see details" beside startup manage and make sure all programs you want to start have a green check. If it finds one that you want to start, be sure to right click on that one and tell it to ignore so it doesn't try to change it whenever you scan. Please post back.

  10. DDJohnson,

I do highly recommend that you give AWC a try. It is a good daily tool to optimize and keep your computer running fast and smooth with little effort.

It is NOT an anti virus program, but it does scan for spyware and blocks a lot of bad things from coming in to your computer- a wonderfull program!

There are good free antivirus and spyware programs out there too. Also, if your Norton was a security suite you will need a firewall to replace the one in Norton. If you do remove the Norton, first go to thier website and find the appropriate removal tool. Just uninstalling usually doesn't get it all out and can cause you problems in the registry (have seen it many times with both the N & M products). Download and save the cleanup tool. Run it after you run the uninstaller.

Of the ones I have tried (including N & M) I have had the best results with Free AVG anti-virus, free Zone Alarm Firewall, and free Adaware 2007 spyware remover-(very important-use only one firewall & one antivirus, but don't rely on one program to remove all spyware & adware, each gets different things!). This combination along with AWC has given me the best trouble free computer I ever had! ( I do use AWC Pro, but go ahead & try Personal, you will probably upgrade to Pro-you'll love it.)

(By the way, I am not employed by Iobit- just a user that is so blown away by the software I have agreed to help with the forum!)

  11. Hi gregb204,

I haven't had that problem with AWC,but do you by any chance use Windows One Care Scan? I had that exact problem every time I ran it.Just a thought.

Next time you scan w/AWC go to "See Details" on the registry scan. See if it shows anything for Adobe or flash player. If it does, right click on it then click"ignore". This will tell it to ignore the entry every time you scan.
