defrag vista boot files

Open the command prompt with administrative privileges by clicking the Start - All Programs, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.

 

Enter defrag C:\ -b ( to defragment files on your C: drive) and then press Enter

You won’t see any output in the command prompt during the defrag process, just a flashing curser.

 

When it’s finished defragmenting a new line will appear in the command prompt.

 

Note: You can stop a defrag running from the command prompt at any time by pressing Ctrl+C on your keyboard.

Sunny, can this be performed with xp3 home? do not see admin choice from all programs-can launch a dos from run/cmd, but right click option is ng at that point-sure this would help-time to reach desktop is increasing-thanks,great day and God bless

Most probably, it did the job in the background.

The only way to see what it does is, to analyze the disk before and after with a defragmenter showing the files in different colors on it's GUI.
