Smart Defrag + ASC issue

Not sure why, but everytime I open Smart Defrag my computer crashes. I am using Windows 8 64bit with ASC Ultimate. Smart Defrag will open if I uninstall ASC Ultimate. Have already tried after a fresh install of Windows 8.

What do you mean by "everytime I open Smart Defrag my computer crashes"? More details will be much appreciated.

 

For the sentence " Smart Defrag will open if I uninstall ASC Ultimate", do you mean everything will be ok when you uninstall ASC Ultimate?

have you disabled windows own defrag program, if not you should, just a guess but they may be trying to run at same time hence the crash.

I am talking about when I double click on the Smart Defrag executable to run the program. When I do that, if I have ASC ultimate installed, my computer will crash(no window opens, nothing). If I uninstall ASC Ultimate, I am able to open Smart Defrag and defrag my computer.

We did a test, but we did not reproduce the situation you mentioned. To look into the issue, please take the steps below to supply us more details to look into it.

 

1. Please ensure that you have updated your ASC Ultimate to the latest 6.0.8 as the link supplied in my last post.

 

2. Please let us know whether you can run your other programs except SD or use your PC normally when you installed ASC Ultimate.

 

3. Please also download the test tool from http://download.iobit.com/test/info-helper-v6.exe

 

Then double click to run this tool and click “Save report to Desktop”. Then you will get zipped file IObit_Debug_Info.zip on your desktop. Please send it to us so that we can get the detailed information to look into.

Updated to newest ASC Ultimate and then installed Smart Defrag. Still causing the crash. Also, yes everything else on my computer is functional. The test tool you had me download has no exectuable file to double click on to run it.

Thank you for your fast reply. Sorry for the invalid link. I have edited my last post and updated a new valid link. Please follow the steps in the last post and send us the IObit_Debug_Info.zip file to look into the issue.

 

Besides, could you please describe the phenomenon of the "crash" more clearly with screenshots? The more clearly you can describe, the better for us to look into it.:-D E.g: Is there Smartdefrag.exe in Process when it "Crashed"?

 

By the way, please turn off the real-time protection of your ASC U and run SD again to see whether the issue continues.

I turned off the real-time protection and was able to run Smart Defrag and use its features. I then renabled the real-time protection and was able to run Smart Defrag again. I'm guessing that was the problem, because I have not changed anything on my system since posting this thread.

To continue to look into the issue, please try with the following detailed steps:

 

1. Please exist ( completely close) your current Smart Defrag. You can right click the icon of SD on system tray and click "exist ".

 

2. Please download the demo from http://wikisend.com/download/330032/SmartDefrag.exe

 

3. Please right click the Smart Defrag icon on desktop and then select Open File Folder. Then put SmartDefrag.exe that you downloaded in step 2 into the folder.

 

After that, please run SD again. If any error happens, please send us the SmartDefrag_RunLog.log in the installation folder.
