Shortcut Fixer

I used shortcut fixer. I deleted the files to the recycle bin, now I can't start windows explorer and I can't boot into safe mode.

 

Any suggestions?

I think it was the registry defragmenter. I use HP Pavilion. I don't know if I could do a System Repair or not.

richboy-you are saying that you can't boot in safe mode(F8)??-stupid smiley-F eight??

I pressed F8 - it stops at MUP and goes no further; won't fully boot into safe mode

That sucks-is your back-up on another drive, or do you have the Win CD? Also, give me a rundown on your OS

I am looking at getting the HP Pavilion Recovery CD ($28) - which I should not have to purchase; I would like to do a simple repair and not have to erase the hard drive - there was no virus, just some thing or some things missing from the registry. I am using Windows XP.

HP usually provides a back-up on another drive-E,F,H etc.-and is usually accessed by booting at F10-This is their version of system restore-did your pc come with any cd's? or lost or.................

No, it did not come with recovery cd; I can't access F10 - I get "hive cannot load due to registry corrupt" message

Yea-that's what I was afraid of-looks like the reg defrag bit you-it would probably boot from cd if you had one-last thing to try while you wait for a disk is to power down and completely unplug your pc from any power source for at least 20 minutes-will erase short term memory-you could even get away with a borrowed copy of SP2 for now to run a repair console, or at least get it to boot so you could go for a system restore-sorry, out of ideas for now
