Disk scan tool on an SSD

I would like to see some explanation of this, as it is well understood that SSD's should not be defragmented. I good while ago I read detailed articles on the topic which while they were technically over m head, were entirely clear that defragmenting an SSD progressively damaged and reduced its life. Is IObit's smart defragmentation different?

I have read a lot of the posts and am re-assured although I have not seen an explicit confirmation of what I am now guessing, which is that IObit SmartDefrag detects that the drive is an SSD and optimises instead of defragging. I have not yet seen much explanation of what optimising is, but then I probably would not understand it anyway!

Yes, Smart Defrag detects the drive if it is SSD and optimizes instead of running defragmentation.

In the case of that your SSD is not detected as SSD and detected as HDD (by mistake) you can manually change the drive as SSD by clicking on the up-down arrows on the right side of HDD.

Please see THIS web site for optimizing an SSD.

Cheers.
