Hi,

I just installed the latest smart defrag and trying to run optimize and defrag on my c: drive and it is running very slow. I turned off virus and firewall. When I used an old version I recall it running very fast. OS: vista 64 bit

HP Pavilion notebook.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi dma

Did you install it over the top?

If so try to do an absolutely clean install

Cheers

Solbjerg and detailer,

Thank you so much for your replies.

Solbjerg, I'm not sure I know what you mean by installing it over the top. I did not have Smart Defrag on my computer before I did the installation, if that is what you mean.

And detailer, thanks for that tip... I do have auto-defrag enabled, I'll try unchecking it.

In your opinions, is smart defrag 1.3 any better than Vista's defrag? I had installed it because of what I remembered about it's being so fast.

Hi dma

Yes, over the top was meant to mean installing it to replace a previous version. That comment was triggered by your comment that you remembered it as being fast.

As for speed comparison I can't say while I do not have any experience with vista. Furthermore it is hard to say as it depends very much on the fragment status, the size of data, the size of the disc, the defrag method - just defrag or defrag&optimize. The best judge will be yourself.

The speed now depends on several things too, the afore mentioned amongst them.

But also on your settings.

Cheers

When I wrote that I remembered it running very fast, I was referring to an earlier version which I had installed on my desktop. This is my notebook, and has never had the program installed before. Thanks again for your replies...

Ok dma

But what kind of defragment did you run?

How fragmented was it beforehand?

I installed SD on a friends Vista yesterday, and it showed the timing correctly, and didn't take more than a couple of minutes to defrag&optimize her C: drive

Cheers
