Weird Behavior

Brand new OS installation. Finished with Windows update and then run DB. DB scanned my drivers and told me I had 40 drivers that needed to be updated (for some reason it considers "Game support" to be drivers). Created a report but wanted to verify that what the program was saying was actually true and not just an inflated bubble. First on the list was my Graphics card driver.

Device Name: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)
Device Class: Display
Device Vendor: NVIDIA
Current Version: 8.15.11.8593, 5/14/2009

Hardware ID:

So, I go looking. And I find this : ( https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driv...x/112594/en-us )

But I decide to test DB. I mean what is the point of having a program such as this if you don't use it for its intended purpose? But I am afraid of a BSOD, because of the nvidia driver discrepancy and if it was the first one on the list, I imagined there would be more. So I make a recovery image, just in case.

Went in DB settings and set "Only Download driver and game component updates" (http://prntscr.com/m1cda3 )

Then I returned to main UI and , after disabling firewall and AV, I initiated the update.

DB proceeded with downloading and (to my dismay) installing drivers and components.

After reboot, I reopened DB and all is well. 40 drivers and components have been updated. (http://prntscr.com/m1cg1z)

Clicking on "View update history" I see a list of updates (http://prntscr.com/m1cgs0 )

And just to be on the safe side, I do another export of the installed (in this case, updated) drivers.

I made a side-by-side comparison of the files, and I noticed that the Nvidia driver wasn't the only discrepancy. Other drivers got renamed. Also their enumeration changed. For example, same driver (same VEN&DEV ID), but modified enumeration and device name

It did update some drivers, and it did install the game components. It also updated my printer driver (and that resulted to my printer properties looking like this: http://prntscr.com/m1dtib. Test page printed though)

I am attaching the before and after exports

@ d0k1m05,

First of all, welcome to join us at this forum.

For your question, you may know that it is normal for many devices share the same name and they use the same driver. Please see the attachment which is a screenshot of Device Manager. So you saw the scan result like that.

If you have any further question, please download http://www.cd4o.com/drivers/debug/DBInfoHelper.exe >> double click to run this tool on the problem PC >> click 'Save report to Desktop' >>find db_info_xxxx.zip on your desktop >> send the zip file to dbfeedback@iobit.com.

Thanks.

That doesn't really answer for :

a) the fact that DB reported that NVIDIA driver needs updating (which it did need updating), then proceeded to (supposedly) update the driver and finally reported that the driver was updated, when in fact it wasn't updated (screenshot #1 & screenshot #3, read 4th and 5th line)

b) the fact that when in options I selected to only download the drivers, the program proceeded to auto install on its own accord.

Sorry, can't do that anymore. Waited for a day for a response then proceeded to manually download and install the drivers (but used DB to tell me which ones were outdated)

You may know that we check the release date first then the version number. The version number is just a code and sometimes the code is wrong, e.g. the version number may be smaller after you update a driver. As an aside, the version number is not defined by Driver Booster but the driver manufacturers.

For issue b), we do need the requested zip file to look into. If you want us to look into this issue, please send us the file.

Thanks.
