downloading update for Smart Defrag 8.1.0.159 from Major Geeks

smart defrag update

Recommended Posts

When I try to download the update Smart Defrag 8.1.0.159 a new page pops up saying this site can't be reached. This is a message I posted on Major Geeks website after the 1st time I tried to install the update and was redirected to their website. The next time I tried running from IObit it directed me back to Major Geeks and it quarantined a virus called url:blacklist. I let Major Geeks know but as of right now there's no way to download this update. I know the software is free and thank you very much for this service you guys offer!!!

I just tested it and had no issue....so the issue is on your system.

Also, your information is too vague to enable us to help you...... When you say it downloaded from Majorgeeks, but says it failed....

makes no sense. it either downloads or fails....it cannot do both.

Do you mean that it Tried to download, but the download failed and did not complete???

Yes, I am sure there are other people who have system setups similar to yours.

Did you temporarily disable your anti-virus program (including windows defender) and your anti-malware program, as I suggested in

my first post.

Also, make sure your firewall is not blocking the download. You should also open windows Controlled Folder Access and ensure that it is

not responsible for the block.

I have run into (maybe?) this problem, as well as the author of the posts from July 5. I am using Windows 10.

The download link at majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/iobit_smartdefrag,1.html doesn't work for me at all, the other one, with a "2", and https://cdn.iobit.com/dl/smart-defrag-setup.exe manage to download a file. Actually, two files, both called "smart-defrag-setup.exe", both weighing 0 bytes. The first one has the standard iobit setup icon, and when I click on it it says "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher." - and after I close this window this file self-destructs for some reason. The other file has no icon, when I click it I get: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item." I go to delete it - I get "File Access Denied. You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this file." (I am already the administrator.) I click "Continue" with the admin icon: "You require permission from [my own PC account] to make changes to this file." I managed to delete it after rebooting the PC, tried all of the above again and got the same disappointing result.

Needless to say that this is the first time I've run into a problem like this. Which makes me think the problem is not on my side since I haven't made any major changes in my software in a long while. I would try the "downloading in Safe Mode with Networking" method but frankly I don't know how, perhaps you could direct me to a guide? Or just share the working setup file directly?

Here is the setup file, see attached.....

Thanks a lot, Scannan, this file works. No idea why I can't download a file like this from Majorgeeks - I just tried again. This time I got only one file that self-destructed instantly x)

It must be either your anti-virus/anti-malware programs, killing the files.

The fact that you can actually download them from majorgeeks says the site is not being blocked, but the files are being removed once downloaded.

The only way to try to track this down, is to temporarily disable your anti-virus/anti-malware programs ( including Windows Security) one

at a time and see if you can download from majorgeeks without issue.
