Windows 7 to ship without Internet Explorer!

Anyone else seen this news...."Microsoft to launch Windows 7" without Internet Explorer included !!! This will be a first eh?.... all these years we've had Microsofts' browser bundled in with the OS....Looks as if they are "toeing the line" after the hype and the legal hearings about them "pushing" their own browser since the early days when "Netscape" was effectively sunk by I.E !

And it looks as if the Microsoft Antivirus is going to be a "lite" version of their earlier paid for offering...... "One Care"...not a lot to look forward to there then !! Apart from Windows 7 which is performing nicely up to present...Anyone else happy with the Release Candidate ?

Yes for Europeans buying a computer for the first time, that could be a problem - but solvable.

For those with a computer it is easy to place an install file of ones prefered browser on a stick and install it in the new Computer setup.

My guess is that Microsoft will have the IE on the install disk and just make it a standalone optional install.

Probably many millions will keep on using it because that is a program they know. Like keeping the same insurance company :-)

Yes it really sounds as nutty as it is. I mean force Microsoft to ship other companies product in their windows installation in order for people to register their Windows installation - and whose product - all of them? Makes for new legal problems. Or ship two install cd's one for Windows and one for IE??

My HP Pavilion came with IE 7 which ran as slow as frozen molasses. I benchmarked IE 8 awhile back at 300% faster than IE 7. Now that Microsoft finally has a browser that is more than twice as fast as Firefox they are not being allowed to bundle it...irony indeed!

About time Uncle Bill can't have his cake and eat it too.They(MS) should have lost that first court battle-what was it,ten years ago? And what's IE8 going to sell for,a hundred,two? Palease!! And more than twice as fast as Firefox!!?? On what planet??? I've seen no numbers or had any experience that would support that totally ridiculous claim. These are the results that I have gotten on a sets of 8-10 MB downloads using my Comcast IP and recording the results with the Bandwidth Meter Pro...

Since I started running Firefox 2.0.0.14 a year ago the greatest advantage has always been being able to customize Firefox with FireTune which made it run more than twice as fast as IE7...

Firefox 3.0.10 with FireTune

 

Although stock Firefox may not run as fast in its natural state as I understand Firefox can be made to perform 3 times as fast by reprogramming it through its unique about.config feature which would make it considerably faster than the security challenged IE8!

The company also said it would offer discounted upgrade pre-orders for a limited time.

 

Starting Friday, consumers who purchase a PC with Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate at participating retailers will get a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it becomes available. The offer will run until Jan. 31, 2010."

 

After spending 100's of hours gettting the Vista RTM OS on my computer to run faster than any of the versions of the 32 bit Operating Systems listed below at 1010.9 using the PassMark benchtest I think I will wait and see how Windows 7 pans out in similar testing.

I dont know what it is about vista. My computer can handle it and all, but after about 4 seconds of using it, i passed.

 

 

Vista and me dont click. Im waiting for windows 7

 

vman- I hope that you will give Vista Release 2 (Win 7) more of a chance than you gave the original Vista which has exactly the same Vista Kernel which has 100 executable strings which is 39 more (= 63% more) than Win XP.

As I said earlier curiosity finally got the best of me and I downloaded the free PassMark Performance Test and put my Vista Ultralight OS through the paces and it scored a CPU Mark of 1010.9 which stacks up surprisingly well with the XP RTM, XP SP2, XP SP3, Vista RTM and Vista SP1 PassMark Performance Tests in the graph I displayed 5 posts earlier in this thread. This measured improvement helps to confirm the need for all of the work I put into the project of getting better performance out of Vista while at the same time using a fraction of the resources.

 

Speaking of which I've just recently gotten my VistaLite OS down to a personal record of low level of memory use during a working session from a typical 1,200 MB of RAM all the way down to only 435 MB...

Although my computer has 3 GB of RAM at its disposal it always bothered me that out of the box Vista OS routinely consumed 1,500 MB of RAM at the end of each day so I decided to put together the UltraLite program to reveal just how efficient Vista can be when it is operated and maintained properly and the 2 most essential and absolutely indispensable contributors to the success of the Vista UltraLite program without which this level of performance enhancement and phenomenal increase in efficiency never would have been possible are the incredible IObit Smart Defrag and Advanced System Care Pro!!!
