Hi chipluon64,

Same with my McAfee.

It quarantines unins000.msg file as: Exploit-ObscuredHtml trojan in the last 3 releases.

Most probably false positive.

When you want to install a new version of ASC, temporarily turn off the McAfee, and restore that file within McAfee for ASC uninstaller to work.

You can send that file to Virustotal as solbjerg points out.

Cheers.

Hi zo

It most probably is a false positive, mentioned several places in the forum.

Previously in the this thread it is shown that only McAfee considers it a threat.

I think the easiest way is to close down temporarily MacAfee and download it again and install it. After that you can uninstall if you wish and then enable MacAfee again.

Cheers

McAfee unins000.msg issue

Hi

New here. Running PRO version of ASC.

I have the same problem as other McAfee users with the new version ASC 3.3.3 download/install. McAfee quarantined the file unins000.msg as 'Exploit-ObscuredHTML trojan' during installation as others have stated in this thread.

Having had a major virus infection on another computer 2 months ago I am loath to restore this file without total confirmation that the problem is indeed a 'false positive' from McAfee. Has anybody actually CONFIRMED this is the case?

Downloaded the update via the automatic ASC update notification one hour ago (midday 28 June AEST). Coincidentally(?) when I tried to download using this same link last night there was a server connection error message. Can't remember what it was precisely.

Can anyone confirm that the ASC 3.3.3 UNINS000.MSG file is virus free? Thank you

Hi Jon

Msg means message, (.msg is the file extention) it can be used to do a control of the information about username and codeword, - so if the anti-virus application doesn't have an up-to-date list of allowed sites, that instigate a control of the validity of your registration, - then they will often flag it as a trojan, because it behaves in the practically same manner.

In this case the most probable is that it is a false trojan that haven't yet been white-listed by MacAfee.

But if you want to be as safe as is possible you might want to wait for an answer from IObit.

Cheers

AWC Mcafee question

My awc seems to work fine the new version 3.3.3 but

I did get an error saying from mcafee that unins.000 file was infected.

Should I restore that file and reinstall AWC, or should I leave everything

as AWC works fine, it just bugs me because I hope this file is not infected

according to my other spyware programs, my machine is fine

Greetings to all,

Am located in Hungary, XP Prof. in Hungarian. Have downloaded & saved to desktop ASC 3 Version 3.3.1.0

Before running & instaling, requesting Yr. kind assistance:

Downloading was in English but my Hungarian Lang. XP Prof. took over automatically. How can I change Language to English before actual instaling? Thanking you in advance.

Hi shelpif

Is this a first time install of AWC/ASC?

Why haven't you chosen the newest version 3.3.3.?

As far as I remember I think that as a first time install it will let you choose the language in a dialog windows as the install starts up. Isn't that right?

But if not the install will happen anyway, and then you can choose what languge setting to use before it opens up for the first scan.

Check all "problems" and place any you think you need in the Ignore list.

Do not use the care button the first time you run a scan.

Are you a foreigner located in Hungary? Without knowledge of Hungarian?

On freelang.net you can find a dictionary for Hungarian ↔ English if you need to see what a button says in Hungarian :-)

Cheers
