autodefrag

Recommended Posts

I performed a manual defrag (express) and obtained a green bar in the status page. I activated autodefrag, but after a few weeks the status bar shows only medium optimization (red bar). Why is this? Autodefrag should be keeping the disk defragmented on an ongoing basis eliminating the need for repeat manual or scheduled defrag runs which tend to be very time-consuming.

Thanks

Hi r2baruch,

Auto defrag will help keep recent files defragged, but will not keep computer defragged at all times. Here's a recomendation (how I use it):

1.Auto defrag on-helps keep down fragmentation of recent files.

2. scheduled defrag- Express for fast regular defrag of drive.

3.Manual defrag- Comprehensive about every 3-4 weeks ( depends on what you do with your computer). This will optimize disc (re-locate files for best operation). Your disc is always changing, so this will help keep things in best order.

Hope this helps-it works for me.

Defrag Options

I'm fairly new to this, so I've done a lot of trial and error, but...........

My settings are:

Auto defrag., Express

Scheduled defrag., weekly, comprehensive, at a time I'm not using system

Manual: only if really necessary ( which hasn't been very often)

These settings work good for me, and when I check the system supplied defrag., it usually confirms it.

I love not having to monitor my system constantly because defrag. is doing it for me. I suggest it to everyone interested.
