AVG Free problem

Hello all

I use AVG Free and AWC on XP SP2, and have started getting the following error message in the event viewer :

ERROR 000 AVG7.CC.plugins.CAvgCcPlugin plugin refresh failed: Error 0x80004005

I have been to the Grisoft AVG Free site and it was suggested that this was a problem with AVG free and Advanced Window Care and they suggested updating the version of AWC to 2.5.0.792, and if this does not do the trick to contact IOBit support. The version I have is 2.5.1 798.

Like other posters to the AVG forum I do not wish to uninstall AWC.

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

TIA

Stuart

Like samr i also use AVG free, Ccleaner and AWC pro (latest version).

I would suggest a completely clean install of AWC, so that no errors is left over in your Iobit/AWC personal folder.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to do the same with AVG free

Good luck

You have to clean all out after uninstalling. Old folders from the applications and so on, then run a Ccleaner (crap cleaner) to clean the registry, and then install the programs again.

Download new versions first to a folder on your computer and install from there.

If that doesn't work there must be something wrong somewhere else.

Do you have trouble with anything else?

AVG Free problem

Thanks for the replies.

1. I did a complete clear out after uninstalling, including registry and folders. I did download to a folder and installed from there.

2. I dont use Outlook, Outlook Express or IE. I use Thunderbird and Firefox.

I have no problems with other programs.

I think I will have to consider Avast or Antivir.

Did you ever try AVG alone? That is, uninstall both, then clean, then just reinstall AVG? That would at least confirm the conflict theory.

For what it's worth, in independent reviews AVG and Avast usually rank pretty close to each other. AVG sometimes tops Avast but Avast usually scores higher. AOL Active Virus Scan usually ranks considerably higher and is free as well. AOL has recently transitioned from a Kaspersky engine to McAfee, so you're getting a good product.

AVG Free problem

Thanks again for the replies.

Yes I have tried AVG on its own, I have been using if for a few years now.

This makes me think that there must be a conflict somewhere. From what

I have read it is probably AWC but I must check if Ashampoo AntiSpyware

can cause problems before I do anything else.

After the complete clean out - did you then restart the computer?

Before installing again, - and maybe a restart between the installations?

My feeling is that XP is saving some settings until the restart has been implementet, even though it has been deleted.

Worth a try - don't you think?

AVG Free problem

Hello all

thanks again for the replies. I did the uninstall and clear out of AWC and

AVG. I then reinstalled, rebooting before install and between installs.

Ok for a few days then back to the same problem. I have taken AVG off

and installed Avast, and I will see how it goes.
