svchost

Recommended Posts

For the past two weeks or so My system freezes; some times once per day, sometimes four times sometimes not at all.

I run Windows 7 PRO and HP Compac 500 B MT. I also run Microsoft Internet Security and Advanced System Care with Iobit 360.

At the suggestion of IOit herewith the Hijack log. I did notice svchost.exe ???Any suggestion will be most welcome. Tony

One particular thing I noticed was you are using two Anti-Viruses - McAffee and Microsoft Security Essentials. Using two Antiviruses is usually frowned upon as they can conflict with each other and lessen each individual effects.

It can possibly cause other PC issues as well. You might want to consider

keeping just one.

For the past two weeks or so My system freezes

hi

first this try the above suggested advice.disable one of them from starting..

ok not a easy ask from here : i assume you have no back up image?

if you do have, reinstall that first.,before you do make one of the present c:\ drive. in a other directory..just in case you do not want to lose anything.

but you will be back to what it is now..if you want your system as is now..

by reinstall it...

so put on your thinking cap!

now think back to before this has started..what did you install since then when this started to happen? any add in or updates.or added applications..

next try this rid the tool bars you have it seems a few,thy may be causing this (possibility) /stop Google for a start.any and all uninstall this .reboot try again see how you fair..

so you could reinstall your image, or try to uninstall one by one till you find what it is causing the crashing of the system..its not easy to ask as we do not know what you installed or what you use,and when this occurred ,could be simple fix.or a reinstall ..or somewhere in between..

but the best bet is you back up image you made 5 -6 weeks back

always the best bet..

Ducky\RubberDucky.exe" what is this ?

Hi itsmejjj,

http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2007/07/03/monitor-system-performance-at-a-glance/

MimarSinan Rubber Ducky System Monitor is a free performance monitoring software that has a small aquarium that sits on top of your system tray.

Each elements of the aquarium represent a system information:

Swimming Duck-no choking , water level-memory, water color-swap file usage, fishes-network traffic, plants-HD I/O and bubles-CPU activity.

Many thanks for the input. By the way I love my Rubber Ducky. It provides very good, ongoing, information in a very simple way.

HP has decided, quote:

Problem description: BM**UNIT HAS A FAULTY SYSTEMBOARD

They are supposed to come today to change the board.

This morning it took six tries to get me going. I am surpised I was able to manage this response.

Very good advice. It looks like it may have the ZoneAlarm Security Suite running as well which would be 3 antivirus running.

Microsoft, Kaspersky and Symantec recommend that you do not have more than one antivirus product installed and running on your computer at the same time.

The real-time protection of two antivirus programs may conflict with each other and cause the following:

* False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.

* Conflicts: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.

* Performance: More that one antivirus will cause your PC to become slow and it may even crash or blue screen.

* Less protection: Two antivirus trying to scan the same file may interfere with the process and allow a malicious file onto the computer without notice to you.

Hi guys,

Perhaps the security side of Tony should be looked closer.

I think it is ZoneAlarm Pro without antivirus.

And, I believe the service for McAfee is a residue and only SiteAdvisor is present and no McAfee anti virus plus exist.

The only resident A/V is MSSE.

Also, the PC has been online checked for virus by PC Pitstop.

Well, there are two site security checkers anyway, ZA Trust Checker and McAfee SiteAdvisor. It will cause a fraction of time on the internet.

Cheers.

Guys, gals ;

Maybe I'm missing something, but all McAfee stuff I see is Site Advisor and Security Scan. Security Scan is now bundled with a lot of freebies like Adobe Reader, Flash (Adobe) and others.

Our new member was also worried about "svchost.exe" being present in the log...

@Tony : svchost.exe is a Windows system file, responsible for launching many Services, which is why we see so many instances of it running. Perfectly normal

I don't know, enoskype... you tell me...

But seriously folks (guys and gals, hehe). I was just being polite. We have many readers here, I'm sure, so I was covering all the bases. Who knows, maybe Krissy will stop by and read (see my sig - fresh flowers every day ).
