Security scans are coming back negative

Recommended Posts

I've been bombarded with endless spam by the dozen and this may be because of a virus I may have lurking that Norton nor Malwarebytes is finding. I'd reformat my hard drive, but installing the updates takes too long and I hate doing it. Plus, I've noticed my computer getting slow and freezing quite a bit, along with Firefox not working properly sometimes with the apps and extensions.

Hello and welcome to IOBit Forums. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.

2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.

4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.

5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.

7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

  • 2 weeks later...
I need to see both DDS logs.

That's going to require uninstalling Norton and Malwarbytes, Dave. Norton is a pain in the a** to uninstall and to reinstall. This is the free version by the way.

I know you can find viruses manually in the System32 folder. I've tried several times and I've found stuff that looked suspicious, but never deleted the logs. I know trojans hide in Java and winx folders...but I haven't seen any.

Hi once again JonJones!

Please follow the instructions in step 3 here (how to run the DDS.)

You wont have to uninstall anything. Please post both of the DDS logs as Dave requests! DDS is a powerful diagnostic tool... it is safe and will not make any changes to your machine. It will give Dave the information he needs to start eliminating the possibilities and kill any infection.

If you are unwilling to do this then simply say so and move on.

Sincerely,

-Mel

Live long and prosper!
