Random blue screens help please?

so i have come to a conclusion that i get blue screens because my ram or something that has to do it with. but it happens randomly...

usually something will crash for example my game will crash because something then a few minutes later boom blue screen..?

or sometimes when my computer is in idle and ill come home from work it is blue screen'd or it restarted itself but crashed because something?

 

i did a system inspect with this program and i was wondering if anyone could figure out from this why i am consistently blue screening. i have lost a few hard drives (3) because i consistently blue screen. kills my drive after a while.

It is most likely a hardware problem but you need to keep a record of the error message at top of blue-screen,

sometime that will indicate the cause but not always.

 

If it's not software-driver related you will probably have to start replacing hardware.

First make sure the Memory-modules are DDR3 type, that Motherboard requires them.

Have you run chkdsk to test hard-drives? They can cause this.

(be sure to run chkdsk after each blue-screen to fix drive errors, also)

 

Changing the Memory-modules is the least-expensive to try first.

 

After trying the easy things, like Memory and drives, the Motherboard is the next most common thing to cause this type problem.

(but make sure it's not driver-software related before changing hardware)

Yes BlueScreenView is a good way to get the Error-messages.

I think the error messages are called 'Bug check Strings' in that utility program.

If the messages are consistant you may be able to pin-point the cause,

but if they are random it will not be so easy. :-(

If you think it may be caused by a software driver or service loaded at start-up,

you can disable them temporarily using the msconfig.exe utility that is part of Windows.

msconfig can be run from the 'Start-menu command-line', in Windows-7.

(Or Window-Key + R-Key, will get the run command-line also)

The 'startup' Tab list may be the one to try Disabling first

 

Note - Search Microsoft website for Info about using msconfig, if you are not familiar with it.

(there are multiple Tabs for different functions)

Please give us a simple report of your system using Piriform Speccy. It is a free software by a renowned programmer and is completely safe to use. Please download only the free version (as that is enough). You can Copy/Paste the information from the summary screen after it runs... into your next post.

 

The summary screen will provide your system details (as you were not able to in your registration).

It will also reveal what temperatures key components are operating at.:wink: (start simple then move toward the complex to fix).

 

This could be thermally related.

If I remember correctly the 'ntoskrnl.exe' has something to do with CPU-cashing

and is used in W-7 as well as older OSs.

I would first do an Internet Search and look for more Info about that.

 

Did you try diabling auto-loaded driver-software, using msconfig.exe, like I suggested?

To first eliminate the easier stuff.

 

If not a driver then my guess is that it may be a CPU problem,

either bad or not compatible with Motherboard or RAM.

Hi doutry,

 

Broadcom wireless driver (bcmwl664.sys Win64bit) seems to be the glitch and BSOD is a known problem on the web for that specific driver .

Are you using HP ?

 

The fix could be the driver (5.60.18.8) or later.

 

Please go to THIS site to check if the driver (Broadcom_BCM43xx_5.100.235.19_win6x.exe) fits your needs. Unless you use Dell laptop, instead of using the installer, use the included INF to manually install the driver.

Acid test.

 

An Acid test to Enoskype's suggestion would be to completely turn of your wireless adapter capability and plug in directly (using an ethernet cable (wire) to your modum)...bypassing the wireless completely... and using a direct LAN connection instead. (by choosing to do so within your network and sharing controls).

 

If the BSODs desist then the wireless adapter (and/or its driver) is the problem.

Fixing Random Blue Screens (BSoD) With Different Errors

  1. Check Your Memory. Many times, random BSOD errors can be a bad memory stick.
  2. Update Your Drivers. Many of these errors are hardware problems and can be fixed by just updating your device drivers.
  3. Update Your BIOS or Firmware.
  4. Test Other Hardware.
  5. Disable SATA in BIOS.
  6. Reset Your PC.

1: Check Your Memory

Many times, random BSOD errors can be a bad memory stick. Most computers have more than one stick of memory. Remove one and see if the problem goes away, and if not, swap the other stick and again see if the problem is solved. Your computer may run slow while doing this test, but it's simple and effective. Memory testing could take at least 30 minutes to hours, so this is the best way to diagnose memory as the problem.

If you've never removed a stick before, look for two small tabs that hold a stick in place and push them gently outwards to release the RAM that is locked into place this way. Now, slide one stick out. When putting your memory back, take note that they only go in one direction. Look at the teeth before you insert the memory stick to be sure you're putting it in correctly. Typically you will find that there's a slot down the middle of the RAM and it's never centered, but off to one side.

2: Update Your Drivers

Many of these errors are hardware problems and can be fixed by just updating your device drivers. We'd try Driver Booster first, reboot, and see if your problem is solved.

3: Update Your BIOS or Firmware

Head to your motherboard or computer builders website and look under driver updates for a BIOS update. Typically, if there's a known issue, it will be mentioned. However, this is one of those cases where we would consider updating our BIOS.

4: Test Other Hardware

Nowadays, most of our hardware is built into the motherboard making diagnosing other hardware difficult. You could try and remove other hardware that is removable (video cards, network cards) and see if the problem goes away. Hopefully, you have an old graphics card lying around because graphics cards also have memory, the primary cause of ransom Blue Screen of Death errors.
