This version crashes for me on Windows 8.1 RTM x68. After the install it tries to launch but just keeps opening and closing.

Hi mbarbieri,

Thanks for your feedback.

To look into the issue you mentioned, please give us the following details:

1) How did the issue happen? When you reboot your PC or when you click Start Menu 8 directly?

2) Please send us the screenshot to show all the files under the Installation Folder of your SM8.

Guide for taking screenshot.

3) Please open your Start Menu and click All Programs. Then take a screenshot to us to help us know what are the programs that you installed on your PC.

4) Please open Task Manger to see whether there is StartMenuServices.exe in Process.

Looking forward to your reply.

Here is a screen shot of the files in my startmenu8 folder. I am using an activated copy of Windows 8.1 Pro from the TechNet site with a legal key so the OS is a good copy. The crash happens as soon as I install StartMenu8. The StartMenu never gets loaded so I cannot show you the programs that are installed. The StartMenu service is running and StartMenu8.exe is running. It seems that the file called Installservices32.exe keeps opening and closing and causing the startmenu not to open correctly. The only way I can stop the loop is to kill all the startment processes. I tried installing with another admin user account and it did the same thing.

Hi mbarbieri,

Thank you for your fast reply.

Do you have other anti-virus software or security programs? If you do, please turn off your anti-virus software or security programs to see whether the issue still remains.

Looking forward to your reply.

Here is a screen shot of what is installed on my computer. It is a Dell 2100 Netbook with 2GB of RAM and a 260GB hard drive. I have not even put any AV on it yet. I have another desktop at work that I just installed 8.1 Pro RTM on and I have not tried Startmenu8 on it yet. I will try it tomorrow and let you know what it does. Is no one else having problems with 8.1 RTM?

I checked today and it does the same thing on my Windows 8.1 RTM 64-bit desktop computer. When I install the program it tries to open and go to the settings just like it does when you install it on any other computer and then it just gets stuck in a loop of the startmenu showing on the screen and disappearing.

  • 2 weeks later...

Where is the actual folder of the menu created with Iobit ?

I want to customise the new menu I created with iobit start menu. For example I need to create folders into which I file the different links. Where do I find the folder containing the new menu created using the windows explorer ?

Thanks.

Hi mbarbieri,

Sorry to tell you that Start Menu 8 does not support Windows 8.1 RTM, currently. But it will be available in next version.

Thanks for choosing IObit to care your PC.

Hi LEF48,

Thanks for your question.

You can find the folders for Start Menu 8 to customize it with the following paths:

C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

If you have any other questions, please feel free to tell us.

Thanks for supporting IObit.
