Feedback on ASC 9 beta1.0: Windows Update

Today when I did a clean and optimise sweep, the ap started downloading 3 Win10 updates. Win10 was about to update itself simultaneously so I had to halt one of both. I chose the automatic windows updates, since ASC is third party.

Strange, I will have to keep my eyes open for this, as I did a clean+optimize and it did not find any of the windows 10 updates I still needed (I had 8 waiting for me to download) I wonder if it only does this with updates that are needed for the program to run optimally?

Hi Odanion,

Do you mean that Windows 10 has found 8 updates for download, but ASC does not found any updates?

If so, could you please kindly send us the screenshot of the 8 updates?

Guide for taking screenshot.

Then please download the tool from http://testdemo.iobit.com/InfoHelperV9.exe

Then double click to run this tool and click “Save report to Desktop”. You will get a zipped file IObit_Debug_Info.zip on your desktop, please send it to us so that we can get the detailed information to look into.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

I will be sure to do this next time. I am unfortunately unable to see anymore if windows had already downloaded them before I ran asc9 and was just waiting for me to install them or not. I will keep my eyes open.

A suggestion would be that ASC only checks for windows updates IF it can see that windows update has been turned off of auto update settings, this way you will never have an over lap.

Hi Odanion,

I got new information about the windows updates issue from our specialists. ASC will only list and recommend the important updates, so the unimportant ones will be filtered. This is for letting you run ASC more efficiently and those unimportant updates will not affect the performance of your system.:-)

Thanks for this reply, I had figured that this was the case. It might still be wise to either use or at least add the option to have it only run the update if auto update is turned off, my ISP can easily handle an overlap, but not everyone is as fortunate and having both ASC AND windows update downloading updates at the same time can really kill the performance

Hi Odanion,

Normally, the situation you mentioned will not occur. And when an update has already been installed, Windows will found that and will not install the same update. :-)

MS are currently re-issuing updated versions of previously released KBxxxxxx's, which have either been reported as causing problems, or are for the W10 uprade on W7/8/8.1.

Thanks for ther reply, it does not happen often, but if windows update is currently downloading the updates when you run the asc scan it will not see them as downloaded/installed and will download them as well, that is why my suggestion was to have it check internally if updates were being downloaded automatically through windows update, in which case asc should never have to update them.
