ASC has almost every imaginable utility it in, except for a decent associations editor. I have not been able to find one.

The goal is to:

  • Allow a non-technical user to set up associations, choosing which program to invoke for each extension. W10-32 and W10-64 do this fairly well.
  • Allow a non-technical user to set up associations such as *.jar where you don’t just put the file name baldly on the command line, but rather java.exe -jar xxx.jar.
  • Allow a non-technical user to set up different associations for open, edit, print etc.
  • Have an automatic registry fix should the associations become damaged to put them back to match a less fragile map of associations maintained by the utility.
